Hello Mentors,

As Lindens don't answer this question, I try to ask you, Mentors.
What do you answer when a newbie ask you below?

What is the 7-day Trial of Premium account? What is the advantage? I may change my account from the basic to the premium, but can I cancel it within a week at no charge?

I think this answer is "Yes", but I don't know what they can try especially. And to make matters worse, Lindens seem to demand the charge immediately, that is, no cancel without charge. They say on the “Upgrade/Downgrade your Membership” page, “NOTE: If you choose to upgrade to a Premium membership your credit card will be charged immediately for the full amount of the subscription plan specified.” :(

I'm writing a Japanese Local Wiki of SL for Japanese who is unable to read English.
And they got trouble with this. Please tell me what to tell them, what the 7-day Trial is.

Thank you.

1 First Basic account is completely free. A credit card is required for verification only. Additional Basic accounts are available for a one-time fee of $9.95.
2 After 90-days, Additional Basic accounts come with a Free 7-Day Trial. If you cancel your Additional Basic account any time before the end of 7 days, you will not be charged the one-time fee.
During your first 90-days, Additional Basic accounts do not include this 7-Day Trial. Additional Basic accounts created during your first 90-days will be charged immediately.

Have a nice day :)

hmm... Thanks. You mean, parry the point of question? :p
The point was about Premium account. But you had me know the interesting answer.
From: FAQ
7. Can I try Second Life for free before I buy?

Yes! Your first Basic account is absolutely FREE, and includes unlimited access to Second Life—all its tools, events and communities. For additional Basic and Premium accounts, you'll automatically get a 7-day free trial. Cancel those accounts before the 7 days, and pay nothing. If you cancel before your trial expires you won't be billed. Otherwise, you will be charged for the plan you requested when you downloaded Second Life.

(You must be 18 years or older, you must have a valid credit card, and you can only get one free trial per credit card during a 90-day time period.)
I tried to make a brand new basic account and go to the “Upgrade/Downgrade your Membership” page. It said ...
From: Upgrade/Downgrade your Membership
NOTE: If you choose to upgrade to a Premium membership your credit card will be charged immediately for the full amount of the subscription plan specified.
WTF! Was the chance only the first time before you signed up any account? If so, it should inform us. It is easy to make a mistake and danger. Or the FAQ even lies?

If You try to make a brand new account, and still have one runnin then it will register ur second account as Additional Basic. And u get informed, if im not completly wrong, first page Nickname - Personal Data ect. pp, second page : Card Informations, third page : bold fat yellow block, that tells ya u will register ur account but as a Additional one, click to continue ;)

The other step, if u wanna make ur basic to an premium u go to ur memberpage thats right, there u can up and downgrade ur account and of course u will get charged if u do so.

Im not completly sure which problem u have now ....

The point is that if the Free 7-day Trial of Premium account works correctlly or not. Please don't mess it up with Additional basic account or something.

I made sure that once I registerd a Basic account and tried chainging it to the Premium account, I was said, "NOTE: If you choose to upgrade to a Premium membership your credit card will be charged immediately for the full amount of the subscription plan specified.", even though it was still within 7-day.

So the problem is that Membership Plans and the FAQ is informing us the wrong information. I can say it is telling a lie. It is serious because it is involved in money.

I'm afraid that you Mentors might have a part in the lie when some newbies ask the same question.

oops

saw your latest msg after i sent that PM.

telling a lie is awfully strong. it's more like nobody got around to removing it. typical linden oversight. just nag them about it.

In English - the word "Lie" requires an "intent to deceive". By using that word, you may be inadvertantly clouding this discussion - and your quest for answers, with defensive emotion.

I don't believe any Mentors or Linden intend to deceive anyone with this misinformation on the FAQ.

Rather, it is outdated information, and should be corrected. At one time there was indeed a 7-day Trial for premium accounts, however that has been gone for quite some time.

If you look hard enough - I think you'll find many errors and omissions within the Linden FAQ's. Perhaps there should be a "Documentation Correction" forum :D

Yes, it was obviously just an oversight, but I wasn't sure how to correct it. It was possible that we had really Free 7-day Trial and demanding the charge immediately was a mistake, or the other way around.

We had a guy who really lost his money because of the information. I know there are a lot of oversights here and there, but money information is serious. I wanted you to think it seriously.

Well, I've made sure that Linden changed the Membership Plans page. :D OK. Now I can say, "We have no Free 7-say Trial."

Thank you, guys. Thank you, Lindens.
