deleting friends

I was mentoring and just got this question asked by a 2-week old. She wanted to get rid of a few "friends" and asked if they would be notified if she delete them.
I told her that if she deleted a friend, they wouldnt get notified of the deletion, and they wouldnt be able to see if she was online, or track her.
I offered to show her, and test it with her.
She added me as friend, saw me online and in her friends list. Then I deleted her card. She still could see if I was online, even after we both relogged.

Anybody who can tell me how it exactly works?

I used to believe that deleting a card was enough.

You need to remove a friend via the friend window I believe. Calling cards show status even when not friends i think. Not sure what to do about that.

If you're in the same sim as another person (maybe even a child sim), your profiles show YES in the online status, even without the calling card or friend status.

Also, calling cards remain after friendship is removed. Deleting a person's calling card from your inventory does not remove your card from their inventory.

Unless you're on a hidden sim... there is no way to hide your online status once a person knows your SL name and/or your av's UUID. They can always look you up in the people search, or run a scripted online status indicator.

This is true wherever you are on the grid. You don't need to be in the same sim.

Friends can only be deleted by highlighting their name on the Friends list and clicking Remove. After both parties have relogged they will no longer show on each others' list. However, calling-cards do remain in both persons' inventories until manually deleted, but will no longer show online status.

Although it is still possible to find someone using Search/People, if they are no longer on your Friends List, the 'Show on Map' button on their profile will be disabled. They will still show when online and its still possible to IM them. However, there is currently an unresolved bug where online status is not always accurate, but that has nothing to do with whether they are on your Friends List or not. :)
