Does the Mentor communicator work?

I have been wearing my communicator while on help island but don't see anyone chatting, nor are new people announced. Does it really work?

The communicator is a tool for the mentors. It's not made like the multi-gadget to announce people near you.
It will only let you know when other mentors activate it when they put it on. It's a great tool to have, but sadly, many, many mentors on HI don't use it. /7 is used to chat.
The HUD is informative as well. Click on the "HELP" balloon and you will see a list of mentors who are wearing theirs. If you're in a situation where there may be too much mentor chat (if they would wear them) you can mute and unmute by clicking either the green (unmute) or red (mute) button on the HUD.
This may not have answered your questions - or it may have - but it's also let others know that the comm is there and available.

As you said, the communicator very helpful -- more mentors should get it and use it.

Mentors, you can get a communicator from Volunteer HQ (I don't have the coordinates - but easy to find). Activate the Mentor group -- there is a vendor there that dispenses the communicator HUD when you touch it.

The primary communications relay node on HI1 got removed, so there may be issues there as well. I'll replace it as soon as possible.
