Are you an Instructor and your question is about how to organize or run a class? If so, go ahead and IM the Instructors group.
Are you a Mentor and need more volunteers for Help Island or have a question about how to organize or run a Mentor event? If so, then IM the Mentor group.
Otherwise, your question should probably be sent to Live Help. That is what it's for.
Even if you are a Live Help volunteer and have a question: stop. Don't open the Live Help group and spam all of the off-duty volunteers, go to Help > Live Help just like everyone else. The only time the Live Help group IM should be used is when Live Help gets overwhelmingly busy and volunteers are needed to tag-on.
Just because someone is in a volunteer group doesn't put them above using Live Help the same way everybody else has to.
The volunteer groups are not meant to be a clique that people join so they can utilize group IMs as a personal wide-reaching support line for their common everyday questions.
That's what Live Help is for. Use it.
Please don't spam your fellow residents unnecessarily. It's a simple courtesy.
PS: The spam would not be nearly as distracting if LL added an option to block IMs from appearing in the chat overlay area, interrupting local chat.
Thanks for reading =)

Those that have a problem with the spam, I wish they'd just close out their session or remain silent. The constant flood of followups to questions with "Thanks for telling everyone, dumbwit", "Blah blah blah, take it to LH and stop spamming us with your crap", and "Doesn't concern me" is making me want to shoot myself in the head. I refuse to even talk to several mentors that are like this any more. If these people can't be either courteous or helpful ("Hey ______, this question is best asked of live help, you'll probably have better luck there." , they shouldn't speak up at all and should reconsider why they joined a group that is meant to be helpful to others. That's my L$2.

I agree, it's your Job description as a Mentor to help people. If you can't help the people immediately around you why Volunteer?
It may not be your problem but point them in the right direction, Live Help isn't always the option. Not your problem? I'm sure it's not always theirs either.
You're a mentor. It's your Job to help people who need help, whether they're a newbie, a 3 year old resident, a mentor, instructor, live helper, resmod, linden or the President of the United States. If they're in need of help on SecondLife, help them. It's MEANT to be in the nature of all Mentors. You Volunteered, do your Job properly.
