hey there.
i'm looking for a few groups that (maybe each, or all, doesn't really matter) specialize in the following professions:
Scripting
Animating
Building/Sculpties
Particles

i'm looking for these kind of groups, but they must also be willing to take me in (i'm a total noob and seek education in these feilds).

does anyone know any groups that would have me? it seems rude to just search them up in world and but in. would like to apply formally/properly.

Edit:
i'm also looking for individuals with the know-how who can mentor me, thats cool too

Not groups - classes!

Hi Zammy

When I started in SL I went to every class going - lots of building classes, a 7 hour course in scripting, particles... lighting... clothing... hair... It's fine to join groups and most are completely free and have no entrance criteria but they won't welcome you asking 'dumb' questions that a few classes or a bit of basic research would have set you straight on.

Anyway - click Search and go to:

- Events tab (select education from the drop-down menu) and click search

- Groups tab and search for the very things you listed and when you find one that suits you just click 'join'. There's no entrance test or anything - it's just like joining any discussion forum.

Have fun

Cat

hey there Cat, and thanks for the reply!!

i don't really like the sound of classes: it means being at a certain place at a certain time, and i can't guarantee either. i'm very random about when i play (although i do try to play as much as poss) and when i do, i might or might not be in the mood to do certain things.

i appreciate the fact that groups won't like nooby questions, but this is why i've come here to try and find one that won't detest to it so much ^^

From what I can read here, it appears you need to hire someone for your personal questions and teaching. To expect a professional, as you requested, to be at your leisure is a bit much to ask. Most pros spend quite a bit of time dealing with their own things. You may have better luck by visiting with people and discussing what you know with them, then you can buddy up and teach each other. Thats where you will grow the most within SL.

Good Luck.

Classes run all the time.. if you are online for a couple of hours, you can go to a class with no need to sign up any more in advance than turning up at the venue on time. Search under events > education. You always learn something new.

Groups dont mind newbie questions mostly. If you get negative responses, just shrug and take it. Some people will answer, some will give you a smart remark. Being in the group and just lurking, listening to other people's questions will teach you quite a lot. Builders of Second Life is very good, so is the NCI group.

Good Luck
