lol. You want roadcrew duty? First time I've ever heard of someone requesting it. I guess the Lindens can add that as a form of punishment. I can see the police blotter entry now:
Date: Thursday, August 2, 2007 Violation: Disturbing the Peace: Parcel Encroachment Region: Iris Description: Parcel Encroachment. Action taken: Roadcrew duty. But seriously I know that the Lindens have use residents to help with Welcome Centers and Infohub so the ideal my not be that far fetched. I don't know which Linden does the roads. Try Amber Linden -she don't do roads but she might be able to help you. You might also goto Linden Village and find a Linden to talk to. |

lol i didn't realize that "Road Crew" refers specifically to the chain gang, orange-suit kind of road maintenance. What do you call people who lay roads for a living, then? Construction Workers, i guess...
If I had to explain myself, i guess i've seen a few very nice looking roads and bridges on the mainland, and I admire some of the work. Meanwhile, I know that many mainland roads have gone unpaved for over six months. They seem to have stopped building roads after the third continent. (i'm thinking its been more like a year, but i haven't been keeping close track). I'm kind to new residents and people who need help, but I don't enjoy it as much as just working by myself or on a small team with people I get to know. So I i'm going to volunteer to help the game I love, I'd rather do construction of some kind than be a person-helper. Anyway, thanks for the tips. I hesitate to e-mail or open a support ticket for something like this. Amber Linden does not appear to have regular office hours. I guess I'll just poke around Linden Village for another few hours. That's been my approach so far. That, and going to the Volunteer HQ... which is empty. Any other ideas? _____________________

Some of the roads look nice without the pavement. I started new thread in gallery showing just one in Mocis looking north towards Gabara.

The wall in the foreground and steps lead up to my 'little garden' 4500sqm. Further north are many castles and walls on a very large parcel. The trees in the middle are Linden's.

i'm open minded... i realize that in sl a road doesn't always mean paved 2 lane highway... if they want a row of trees or a brick retaining wall or a footpath, I can do that, too.
Some of the other dirt roads look more like swamps than pretty forest paths, though. _____________________

Certainly! Of course the other end of the spectrum are roads with nothing but 16sqm blight on either side. Those undeveloped roads would do well with 20m walls on either side, just like in film Brazil!

i wrote the volunteer people a couple of times and remember commenting on an older post about helping with building roads and "infrastructure" to sl as of yet no one has responded but truly it would be a fun thing and a change from doing what I normally would do to build a road or railway or something just for fun on linden land to help the lands look more "landlike" but as of yet I have not succeeded in finding out who or where or when. Me thinks the LIndens covet these chores for themselves for when they have free time for fun factor

We call those walls in CA 'sound walls' they line the highways supposedly to keep sound of cars going by away from residents.

Hi, Wyn.
Yeah... it looks like i'm not the only one with an itch to build some infrastructure. I feel better now. Please... if anyone hears about a sign-up sheet for this, please post here. I mentioned this at Daniel Linden's office hours today, and his advice was to sign up for the Mentoring program. I started to do this on the web site, but clearly what LL is looking for are personal relations, greeters, helpers, etc. I'm not so interested in that. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind helping out new people, but thats not my reason for applying. I'll return and complete the application if LL broadens the job description, or if they make a separate volunteer description that includes this kind of stuff. Also, i'm going to try to make Blue Lindens office hours next Wednesday. Thanks. _____________________

I would love to build some nice old Spanish bridges in areas that would meld with such a design.
The public transportation system of SL is dead, I think. I also have the SL Rail Road bordering my parcels and it has not been running for months. I miss James Gill - he was an engineer who made locomotives that would run the tracks, and now, even those are gone... _____________________
