Why your stuff is returned
10-22-2006 12:32
Don't know much about the other questions you presented, but as for why your stuff is being auto-returned, it may be that you belong to a group to sell in that mall. If so, I believe you have to be wearing the group tag when you set your things out. To do this, click on yourself, then groups, then select the group for the mall, then activate it. If this, doesn't work, you may have to contact the owner of the mall, in case the permissions aren't correctly set.
There may be other reasons, but not being much of a seller myself, I'm not sure what they might be. But on another subject, I want to wish you a hearty welcome to Second Life, and good luck with anything you endeavor here.

welcome to SL, that's known around these parts as a "new feature with enhancements" and as for stopping it, you can't. sit back and enjoy the ride *awaits for the censor nazis to come along*

Welcome to Second Life! If your items are being returned to you from a space you rented there are a few things you can do to help fix that. 1. As the person above said, you may have to belong to a group to keep your items in the mall. If you already belong to the group, right click on yourself, select groups, then highlight the one for the mall and click on activate, then you can put your items out. If you dont belong to the group, IM the owner of the mall and have them invite you to the group. 2. Contact the owner and see if there are any specific rules to putting items out in the space you rented. The owner of the mall should be able to tell you if you need to have your items set to a group at this time. Since you would like to learn how to script, there are occasionaly classes that teach this. Just click on Search, then click on Events, and put in scripting in the search option, a class or two may come up. If nothing comes up keep checking back. Since you also have expierence in photoshop I suggest checking out the Design and Textures forum here, there are a few stickys at the top with some pretty good tips tricks and hints. Also, since you arent to sure what you are going to be selling yet, it may be wise to wait on renting a space until you h ave items to sell. This way you arent wasting your hard earned lindens. How ever if you want to rent then its completely up to you Happy SL'ing and I look forward to seeing your items in world! ~Stormy Live Helper

Enter contests

Lots of places have contests with prizes of a couple of hundred Linden$. Enter them. Lots of them. Figure out who wins, and do that.
A friend of mine can make L$1,000 in a couple of hours, because she is good at winning contests...

Welcome to Second Life.
Firstly you need to know that places are in SecondLife just like Real life, areas are always owned by someone and that means that if you want to keep something at other people“s land you will have to have permission to that. Many public places does have the Auto return feature, it means that if you are not incuded in the land owners list when the feature is triggered everything on the land will be returned.
Now if you are included in the landlord list and have the permission to keep a vendor on that land, then you must set your vendor to that group. Wear your group tag and rez the object from your inventory and place it.

Hi all,
Im interested in making money on SL as well. What has been your experiences so far? Do many people keep their money in L$ or do they switch to US$ or some other tangible form of currency? Im interested in finding this out since I am requesting articles on talksecondlife.com regarding success in second life.

"spening most of my time collecting from money trees and camping"
I am also very new to SL. I have a basic account and need to make money. Right now I just want to get a feel for this and see if it is for me. What I have seen so far is good. Is there anyway to make money with just a basic account? Jobs? Where do I find them? Any help would be appreciated! Money trees? Camping? Please explain!

"Camping" as in "sitting in one spot, camping out"... the way some people do in order to be first in line when the new Playstation is becoming available or whatever.
Some businesses use what are called "camping chairs" (though they can be rugs, beanbags, whatever) that give money to people for time they spend sitting in them. In part, this may be so the business (often a club or casino) looks more like the real world thing... with lots of people sitting around, frequently talking to each other while they do.
The rate of pay is pretty low... usually about L$2 per 5 minutes or so, though it varies from place to place. But using that as an estimate... that means you would get L$24 per hour. At the current rate of exchange of about L$ 300 per US $, that means you would be making about 9 cents real money per hour.
Money trees are trees set up in some areas (usually those that try to help out new people) tht will grow a few "fruit" every hour, and these fruits are usually good for about L$20 or so when picked.
One good way to get a wide selection of stuff at the beginning (and often to find money trees as well) is to do a search for "freebies" or "newbies" and check out some of the places that turn up.
