I think the voice capability will be really helpful for greeters, and had a new resident ask me already if I could just talk to him instead of text, but I can't seem to be able to do it. I tried but it was mostly static. The sound was in and out I was told. I could hear myself fine and my headset works well when making recordings of my voice in the windows default sound recorder.
Someone on the voice beta grid suggested that it was because I had a wireless connection, but I run Skype just fine over the wireless connection. Is anyone else having this problem?

I have this problem with my front panel sound. EMI from the video card is the problem, according to Creative. The static goes nuts when SL is open, so I believe it. I just use my motherboard's sound input to record, since the x-fi doesn't have a mic input in the back and I'm using the line in.
A USB headset wouldn't do this, I think, so if you can't get anything working, you might want to find one of them.

I have a USB headset -- I think it is called Manhattan Station (or at least, that's the software that came with it).

If you have a USB headset and it works with the defautl sound recorder it sounds like a bug in SL. SL should not know about the headset itself, it probably uses the audio input/output interface provided by Windows.
I'm speculating here, but I'd say it would make sense to contact official SL support.
