How will or could voice chat be used by Linden Lab in the volunteer help program?

Interesting question. I have no idea, of course. A preliminary description of the voice system is available on Reznation:
http://www.reznation.com/?p=100

An initial summary by Johnny Ming makes the following points:
>Voice "is expected" to be available in the First Looks viewer in April.

>Proximity based chat will control volume by camera focus. You can select the person you want to hear best by zooming in on them.

>Group chat will let some one determine how many people can speak.

>In about 6 months, the system will allow connections to the phone system.

My inferences:
>You will be able to select proximity chat and focus your audio attention on the person you are helping, provided the both people have chat on. (If you are in a chat-authorized area.)

>People who do not have audio enabled on the computer could still get audio help via the phone system or Skype.

>Helpers will want to form helper groups of limited size to allow most helpers to speak, and to allow the groups to include people needing help. There might also be a large Help group, open to new people, for use by them in posting questions. Use policy: new people post in IM text. Helpers monitor and give brief audio response -- "Helper Baskerville coming to Waterhead to help on request by John Doe." or "John Doe requesting help on building. BuildHelp group sending invitation. John can accept and talk to Helpers in that group. "

>Linden labs might help on some of these things. But I prefer questions like "What can I do?" to questions like "What can Linden Labs do?" I don't wait for Godot either.
