This has been on my mind for some time and no one can ever seem to give me a straight answer. WHAT is the difference between a mentor and instructor? What are the duties of each volunteer group, clearly defined, please? I was approved as an instructor back when Linden funding stopped for all but educational events and when I tried to ask Jeska about why it didn't show up on my account info under volunteers, I ended up a mentor as well. I've been working as a mentor now, but on the page for applying for each volunteer thing it doesn't even state what each does, how do people know the exact duties? Oh yeah, and neither mentor or instructor still shows up on what I've applied for on my account info, is there someone I should ask about that or are they having troubles straightening out that system?

It's not very clear, it's true, particularly with the recent changes to the roles of mentors and greeters. I understand that there's moves underway to more clearly define what the role each class of volunteer entails.

I look forward to it, myself.

Ah good, I can't wait either.

...one more question if anyone knows.... why the heck does the forum thing star out the word "forum" in my little self given title thingy beneath my name? I swear! Forum isn't a bad word!

Incidentally, (and unless I'm mistaken), while some of the volunteers seem to overlap a bit, there is a fairly clear distinction between mentors and instructors - the two you cited.

Instructors are currently the only volunteers who can teach classes in-world and receive Linden support for those classes. Mentors do a lot of teaching, but they are not paid to hold formal classes the way that Instructors are.
