I am not sure how it works exactly but many new residents are entering at Waterhead now instead of the traditonal Welcome Area once they leave Orientation Island.

As a side note, it has a feel of what I think "Help Island" might be like. With the handy Green Hand notecard kiosks and the Mentors, Greeters, Live Helpers, Lindens and other helpful residents I think the new residents entering there have really got some great group and one on one attention. Great job everyone!

The past two days it has been almost flooded with a sea of white tees and blue jeans. :D So while this massively influx continues, be sure to head on over to Waterhead and help out when you got some free time. Thanks!

Strangely enough, I joined SL in August and I entered at Waterhead as well, although other people who joined at the same time as me didn't. Not sure why that is.

Ahhhs prolly the reason why Stan is 'cuz back then, it wasn't so congested. My understanding is that Waterhead is opened up as an EXTRA Welcome Area if Ahern-Moris-Bonifacio-Dore gets too full. :)

It was overflow - AND HOW!

There were 100s of new SLers pouring in to Waterhead last night, I will probably go back over there to help out again today.

A preview to help island
10-30-2005 10:29
As the new flood of NY times and Fox news fans came in, most saying the articles made them want to come try it, many greeters and mentors where there answering questions, giving notecards and giving tours.

It would have only taken a few nasty minds to upset the great system and we would not need a help island if quiet, newbie friendly places could be kept that way by banning troublemakers.

I look forward to a help island were new and seasoned players can trade information.

It was certainly crazynuts there over the weekend, but it was orderly and peaceful for the most part. The occasional streaker, and some cage guns, but pleasant compared to the usual chaos.

For a while there, with all the helpers lined up, it looked a bit like an actual immigration terminal. All we were missing were the desks.

Big thanks to whichever Linden provided us with the seating.

I spent about an hour at Waterhead last night (after a gentle prodding by Rick). :p

Lot's of new players to help and encourage, and far less chaos than Ahern-Moris-Bonifacio-Dore. I really like the more open layout of Waterhead. Groups of people seemed to cluster together based more on the conversation or general interests, rather than having everybody drawn together to perch on a central fountain.

I am still really looking forward to the Help Island. But for now, this is a nice place to catch and cradle a few newborns.

Thanks for letting us know about this Rick!
