OK, I"m very green to second life and I'm just learning how to get around but I have a (possibly complex) question.

Walking around, I see a lot of billboard like advertisements, many for "outside" companies.

I was just wondering how this works and how I might be able to advertise my website on SL with these virtual billboards and such.

I would like to know what it costs and how I would navigate through the process form start to finish to get my ad on second life.

Again, if this is the wrong place to ask this, I apologize, I just didn't know where to ask this.

I appreciate any help.

Thank you.

Insert Your Http:// Url Into The Note,, And Any Info Plus Pics

Then Put It Into The Addvertisements Boards In Secondlife After You Pay For Them..

The Linden's Classifieds section on this website does cost you money.

But putting up a billboard in-world costs you nothing (assuming you already own some land to put it on). Just texture a prim with a bitmap of your ad, and set it out.

If you don't own land, you can buy advertising space from one of the "ad famers" who own those unsightly rotating towers of ads that you see all over the mainland. I don't recommend this, mind you...most residents of SL detest those things and many of them will not patronise those who advertise with this method.

Another approach would be to find someone who's got a build that has some connection with your website or service. Ask them if they would allow you to put up your billboard for a nominal weekly fee. For example, let's say I have a website where collectors can buy and sell Japanese swords and armor. I might ask the owner of Samurai Island if I could put up an ad for my site there.

These work using llEmail and httprequest. Simply search slx or onrez or SL for advertising boards. The fee is very reasonable if you'd like to advertise on someone elses already set up system. About L$1000-L$2000 a week and it can really raise traffic.
