English Village is an educational sim for language learning who have recently incorporated Holodecks from http://www.insidethisworld.com into each of their classrooms. They are sponsoring the first Holodeck Build Comp to generate more content for the role-playing scenes they believe improve memorability, enjoyability and learning effectiveness. http://www.eslteacherlink.co.kr

In the notecards below there are also ideas for objects/sounds/animations/and poses which would be great to have in the scenes.

We would like you to add as much detail as possible. For example, in a dentists office, a tray with a few dentists tools on them would be better than a single texture.

Prizes
10 prizes of $5000L are available to the top ten ranked scenes submitted

Duration
Competition starts 19th March and runs until April 19th. Winners announced April 22nd.

Judging
Three judges, one from Inside This World, one from English Village and an independent judge will make the decision based on a points system. Points will be awarded for quality of build and textures, prim conservation, detail, appropriate poses and for scripting that adds authenticity or interest. The judges' decision is final.

Scene choices

You must nominate which scene or scenes you intend building from the list below. If too many people nominate the same scenes, you may be asked to build a different scene. You may also contact Fire Centaur if you have an idea for a scene you think would be useful in language teaching.

Building
All scenes must be built within the Holodeck Shell we send to you. You are free to use the Sandbox at English Village if you wish.

Conditions

All scenes must be dropped into the competition box located at Kenora by midnight, April 19th PST. To be accepted as a scene, every single object in the scene must be submitted with full permissions, Copy Mod Tran. Scripts can be no mod but must be Copy and Tran. A scene that does not have correct permissions or is faulty in some other manner (eg covers up the control panel) will NOT be accepted. Inside This World has unfettered discretion in deciding whether a scene is accepted or not.

In some cases scenes with permission problems may be returned to builders. This is at the discretion of Inside This World. For this reason it is strongly recommended that scenes be submitted well before the cut-off date.

All Entrants grant English Village the right to use their scenes as teaching aids but not to resell them. Winners (and others) may offer their scenes to Inside This World to re-sell on the normal commissions basis. Entrants are under no obligation to sell scenes to English Village or Inside This World and retain complete ownership of their intellectual property.

Scenes that have already been approved by Inside This World before the start of the competition are not eligible.

Entrants must build the scene in their own Production Holodeck. No more than 2 builders may collaborate on a scene.

Prims must not exceed 230 per scene (including the 27 prim shell).

I think this is a great demo of the potential of SL for language learning. I hope to make some videos of the builds in use to show the project to the outside world.
