In an attempt to better organize the Linden Town Hall format, we're now taking a group of questions before hand here in the forums, for those who may not be able to attend the in-world events.

On Wednesday, October 12 at 9 AM and 3PM PST, Lawrence Linden will hold a 2 separate Town Halls to discuss all things relating to economics inside Second Life.

Guidelines for Posting Questions:
1. Please post only one question per Resident
2. Questions relating to the in-world economy only
3. No Tech support-type questions (ie: "My computer is broken";)
4. If you're interested in asking a question that is already posted - 'second' it instead of posting it again

I'll be heavily moderating this thread, so please stay on topic and post only the LindeX and other economic-related questions you are interesting in knowing more about! Please note that it is not always possible for us to answer all questions during the Town Hall

Thanks!

Target Exchange Rate

Does LindeX have any kind of policy targets or limits, for example USD/SLD exchange rates or exchange stability? If so, what are they and how will such policy targets be limited?

My account uses a debit card instead of a credit card. It would be exceedingly convenient to have proceeds from a sale of linden dollars sent right to the debit card account instead of having to email for a check. Do you plan to be able to do this and if so how long will it take to get it implemented?

Without knowing how many "blocks" of 1000L someone wants to sell or buy on the LindeX, how can an exchange be fulfilled if it exceeds the blocks up for purchase/sale? For example, I want to sell 30000L or 30 blocks, at 250 L/$. But there currently is only a request to purchase 25 blocks at 250 L/$. What happens to the remaining 5 blocks?

Since LL now controls L$ flow both ways, what is LL's plan should one of the following government agencies comes knocking?:
- IRS saying "We want records of all residents' profits"
- Feds come asking to report all L$ transactions > $10,000US as per banking laws.
- Gambling commission demanding to shut down all gambling - since LL is now providing direct access to gambling with RL$

I want my Metaverse to succeed. I want to know LL has a plan.

Lawrence, this is not a "question" but rather a "request for clarification". It would be very encoraging to have an "official" Linden explanation on how much money there is in circulation, how L$ enters and leaves the economy (ie. stipends, money sinks), why the influx of money from stipends is not "bad" in itself if it corresponds to more transactions -- but if it doesn't, why inflation is a possibility (and how you measure it) and how you have successfully dealt with it in the past and will do so in the future. Also, why it is so important to have our own in-world currency, supervised and checked by LL, with a degree of transparency, instead of relying on external sites (say, eBay, or simply email) to do content transactions among residents.

"SL Economics 101" classes in-world are rather more successfull than ranting in the forums, but still so many people have not a clue on how the economy works (or even why it works). I see SL more as a socio-economic platform than a technological one; the technological issues are somewhat understandable to most; the economic issues, are rarely or poorly understood.

If a brief "Introduction to SL Economics" is too much trouble to hold during a TH meeting, would you consider to have a white paper on it posted somewhere on the SL website or as a "sticky" in the forums (or at the very least on one of the Linden blogs) so that baffled and confused residents can look it up somewhere?
