TIM is an exciting new way of experiencing audio and video media in Second Life called MULTICASTING. TIM gives you the ultimate in privacy, the most unique content, and the ability to have as many video streams on your land as you wish, allowing every resident there to choose what they want to see or hear! Not only does TIM allow everyone to choose what they wish to view, but it allows them all to see their own choice on THE SAME SCREEN SIMULTANEOUSLY! TIM players can be set to public or private modes, and in private mode will let you avoid having to set your land to *adult* because YOU control who sees the content, and you NEVER have to set a media URL on your land!

What is TIM Multicasting?

TIM (Temporal Industries Media) Multicasting is a brand new audio/video technology created exclusively for Second Life. It provides flexibility for audio and video content that previously has not been able to be offered within the constraints of the Second Life platform. Historically, to provide audio or video streams, there had to be a single audio URL and a single video URL configured on each parcel. Each person on that parcel had to watch or listen to just that one stream. With TIM Multicasting, we remove the audio and video streams from dependency on an in-world server, and from any association with the parcel and move it to each resident's own Second life client. This means that now we are able to have multiple media streams on the same parcel and allow each resident to choose their own personal media content streams, as long as it is configured in the player. Each resident audio/video experience can be independent of what any other resident sees or hears, or the player can be set for group viewing if the owner wishes. It also means that multiple residents can view and listen to different media on the same screen at the same time if they choose to. Additionally, no media URL is ever set on the parcel, so no one else in Second Life will ever know what you are watching, or listening to, unless you invite them to see.

Features for all DVD Players

TIM Multicasting DVD players have a wide range of features to provide you with the most varied of viewing experiences. The system has private and public modes, security, group or individual play and can be used on both private and group land. Each player offers you several different play modes as well, allowing you to play a single video, play a video in a loop, or play+, which allows you to view all videos in sequence. Additionally, we offer each player in a variety of decorative and attractive forms, and in multiple rental periods. Because of the security options, TIM can be used for viewing mature content, without having to set the parcel to a mature or adult only setting. Additionally, a password may be set on the player that you may give to trusted friends, so that they may use your player if you wish (this makes TIM particularly well suited for private homes or private rooms in clubs). Videos can't be seen by those that you have not given rights to view, and outsiders can't 'cam' in from outside your parcel to view the media. Unless the viewer is set to public mode, they will not even be able to access the video menu. TIM Multicasting DVD players are offered in Mature versions, Feature Film versions, and Music Video versions. Because of the unique way the videos are streamed through the viewers, should a media URL ever become inactive; the URLs can be updated on a regular basis to make sure that your DVD player never has dead URL links. Your player will contact the media database on a daily basis, to check if there is new content for it. This is entirely automatic, and does not require any action from the owner.

TIM Multicasting DVD players are designed to be rental units (15, 30 and 60 day rental periods) and will become disabled when the rental period expires. This allows us to provide the players to you at lower prices, and allows you to change out players as new videos become available. The player is self-deactivating when it expires; leaving you a reminder object to let you know that it has expired. Because the units are rental units, we have created them so that they are no modify/no copy/no transfer. We have created viewers that look like fireplaces, aquariums, standard televisions, the unique "FollowMe" and the DVD HUD version. All may be seen at the main TIM store in Semoshi.
