Well, in what we think is a first for SL, here's our take on the safe gag from Snow Crash...

"...So Hiro steps back a couple of paces and mumbles, 'Safe.'
A largish black safe, about a metre on a side, materializes
just below the ceiling, plummets, and lands directly on
the businessman's head..."
(Stephenson, 1992, "Snow Crash";)

If you've ever read Snow Crash, and many, many of you in here will know exactly what I'm talking about, you probably remember that scene. Hiro Protagonist has just slewn a challenger in a sword fight in the Black Sun. Adding a final insult to the loser's massive injuries, he rezzes a virtual safe that falls, cartoon-style, from the ceiling and flattens the guy's head.

If, on the other hand, you've never read Snow Crash, it begs the question ...erm.... Why on earth not?!? So whilst you're waiting for your Internet-ordered copy to arrive, just try to imagine the warneresque scene of the safe crashing to the ground.
