So I set about writing some scripts to circumvent the fact you can't script glow directly and have applied these to some new lamps which are available to buy on the SL Exchange.

On the left we have a low-prim Floor Lamp standing at 2.5m tall and using 4 prims. This lamp is powered by a fluorescent strip bulb meaning it flickers briefly as it's turned on.

On the right we have what I call a Bedside lamp but it's at home on any table really. Powered by a Halogen bulb the lamp turns on instantly and emits a soft yellowish glow.
