An early Regency tailcoat with an elaborate high wide collar and cuffs that can be worn in three styles, as illustrated: long and flared, folded back loose, or buttoned. The body of this jacket is a dark navy blue houndstooth, the prim buttons are pearlescent, and the collar and cuffs are black velvet. There are six buttons to the front, two to the rear and four for each cuff. The arrangement of the front buttons can be enlargened or reduced, by script. The prim collar is likewise adjustable. The hem is low across the stomach. This is the style of coat that a young Beau Brummell made fashionable about 1800, it is the forerunner of today's dark business suits and must be considered one of the pinnacles of historical male costume. Note that the prim collar is wide enough to accommodate my Regency Neckcloths, which are strongly recommended for wear with this jacket.
