Since they want us to gather some screenshots anyway, why not post a couple here? After all, this is all about fun way more than it is about winning.

In-world team leader Gary Bukowski and I test an early incarnation of an Extended Virtual Agent node. This shot is a little out of date, we're several revisions ahead now.

No offense, RacerX - but this thread is reserved for residents who are competing in the Game Dev Competition this year, and reactions to that.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Giant Snail Races aren't a part of that since that's been released already.... right? ![]() _____________________

Heh. Hamlet quoted me directly for our entry... which makes for some rather "interesting" dialog.
Ah well. ![]() _____________________

Yeah. In all honesty, I see RCR as becoming the next Tringo.
Which leads the question: Why are "old skool" games and puzzler's so popular in Second Life where most attempts at more traditional PC gaming are not? Does this reflect on the Second Life community as a whole, or is it just a footnote in our history? I find the extreme nostalgia to be quite stifling as a developer. This is a trend that goes far beyond RCR and Tringo, to the point I'd call it the "Yahoo Games" era of Second Life. I realize this is more a question I've addressed before, but this seems the appropriate place to put it. Maybe it's just me? _____________________

Wow, thanks for putting us in the same category as Tringo, we're not quite there yet. But if everyone comes down to the Shogunate Temple and starts playing maybe we can get there. As far as the "Yahoo Games" era, well Yahoo Games has been a downright successful venture for Yahoo! Besides you haven't seen anything yet, wait til HTML comes to world. To answer your questions, it's a trend called "Casual Games" and it's taking the game industry by storm. It is a market that is estimated to grow from $600 million last year to $2 billion in 2008. Everyone likes to play games, but not everyone is a gamer. As for the SL trend, perhaps its because all the "gamers" are playing WoW and CoH. _____________________

I realize this is more a question I've addressed before, but this seems the appropriate place to put it. Maybe it's just me? Satchmo mentioned the one thing - SL is not inhabited primarily by gamers. It is inhabited by people who like to play games. As a result, quick-playing, simple-to-play games dominated. (The dodgy state of speedy anything in SL would seem to be a factor too.) That said, more "gamer" games do exist, and are as reasonably popular as you might expect - appealing to the more gamery SLers... like myself, for that matter. Portal Wars being my current interest. _____________________
