Requires:
One whole sim. (or a quarter of a sim).
High prim alotment.
A couple weeks to sort this out.
Imagine chess on a giant board. bleachers ON the peices. The players would stride the peices and control the action on a smaller board.
It would ROCK... and I'd finally bother to learn chess.
The code exists already for chess, it wouldn't take much to make it Monster Chess.
I already have a giant Rook.

Hi Burke,

Drop me a line at the SL Chess Club (search for "Chess" in Find). I already have a lot of what you're looking for.

Best,

Wow, that'd be cool. Each piece could be on a 32x32m square, and could have an average of over 450 prims. People would have to turn their draw distance up and just thrash ;) I can't wait to see if you actually get a sim and manage to pull this off.

I saw one in a sand box a while back the peices were so beautifully detailed it was amazing. They werent selling it at that time because was so high in prim counts but they do put it out in the sand boxes from time to time may want to keep an eye out for it.

I didn't run across this thread until today -- fwiw, I built a smaller (32m x 32m) version of something like this for my Burning Life installation, it autoplays chess games (thanks and a big tip o' the hat to Stephane Zugzwang for the inspiration and the canned games :) )

I looked at Xylor's code but because what I wanted to do was rather different, I ended up writing everything from scratch. The one issue you'd have doing this 'in the large' over a sim-sized area would be communication. Although I understand there are tricks you can use to broadcast low-bandwidth data within a sim?

Jessica, your board is so beautiful... lurve the shiny panels. I could imagine a trashy counterpart with grit on them but yours is so elegant! And big!

I always wanted to do battle chess with avatars, but it's hard to get that many avatars to sit still.

Actually some friends of mine are toying with this idea and sprucing it up a little. They have alot of it done. Not heavily scripted or anything but still.

EDIT: Also less interation and just fun with alot of people. More avatar and less battle. They were thinking of some funny ideas. Elves Vs Trekkies, Vampires vs Mafia, etc. Each defeat would cause something to happen like being hurled into the air or something. Think they were making PG and Mature versions.
