Hi, all SL game players!

My brother and I are porting to SL a game that we made up and have played for decades, called "Spaceship". In SL it is a multi-player real-time strategy game of interplanetary combat. The game is now in public beta release until the end of October. Starting in November we will have a weekly tournament series with free (L$0) entries and real CA$H money prizes, through generous corporate sponsorship. Drop by the game now to practice your skills and prepare for the tournaments!

The basic idea of the game is to fly your spaceship(s) around shooting your enemies and taking their points. But it is not an "arcade-style" game -- it requires different skills like planning trajectories, anticipating the force of gravity, and timing movements. You can also build starbases that have tremendous defensive strength to reinforce your position. It is sort of a turn-based game, but each ship takes its turn independently of the others, so it is also a real-time strategy game.

Game play is 100% free for the month of October, and free money tournaments begin in November.

Come check it out at Jindalrae (228,58).

Rocket on!

(P.S. A README instructions file will be posted at the gamesite as soon as I get home today.)

Yo!

Today -- Wednesday, September 27 -- at 8:30pm game-time, some people who are making a documentary about SL will be filming machinima at my place while we play the game of Spaceship. They were cruising around and saw my build, and thought it was cool enough to take some footage of it. The game rocks! Come check it out -- 8:30 tonight -- Jindalrae (228,58).

Cheers,

This is an amazing game. It's hard to describe in a few sentences. Lots of strategy, being able to slingshot around planets, attack enemies, create bases, defend them, etc. It is one of my favorite places, and a great example of what makes SL great: anything is possible, with lots of real gems all over. But this one is one of the best, IMHO.

Interesting, though :
1) the ships/etc are very small and hard to see.
2) the way of moving ships uses a LOT of clicking.
3) the difference between the ships is unclear.

That said :
1) I like the large board.
2) I like complex strategy games.
3) I like the idea of stationary defences etc.

Is this game meant to be strategic (lots of pieces move themselves, you just need to have the overall plan) or tactical (micro-management of a few pieces).

You're not meant to have 40 or 50 ships on the board, like you had. ;} Two or three ships is about all a person can reasonably control. Add a few bases to that and it's a sizeable force. You can team up and have a friend handling some more ships from the same Fleet, if you want a really big game. There's plenty of room on my land for a challenging and complex game without smacking into the prim limit.

The ships aren't so small, if you're only looking at a few of them, instead of scores. The only difference between ships is what Fleet they belong to, and that's reflected in their colour.

Okay, thanks. ;-D

The ships move themselves, but not intelligently. They have to be managed, so I guess you'd call that tactical. But the effective way to move them takes several turns to complete, and requires committing to a particular course of action minutes in advance -- for that I would call it strategic.

Thanks for checking it out!
