Question, is it safe to post new game ideas here? I mean honestly I am not that worried about someone stealing my game idea .. I was just curious if people just posted who game layout ideas on this website?

Yea, this is a cool place to post a new game idea. I would love to hear any thoughts you have on game design. So if your not worried about releasing your idea into the collective, then lets hear it :)

My game idea is an arena based fantasy combat game. Think of a game that mixes the best parts of Magic:The Gathering, Pokemon, and Yo-Gi-Oh. The game would center on a mage battling another mage in an arena. Each mage would have his own section of the arena for his summoned creatures, spells, and such. Here are some of the basic points.

I. Each Mage would have his own spell affect board, and there would be large board showing overall spell affects.

II. Spells, creatures, relics and constructs are cast using Pith, Pith is the power of the elements focused through the Mage.

III. Pith is found in 5 type, Fire Pith, Water Pith, Air Pith, Earth Pit and Soul Pith. Soul Pith is the inherent power of the caster given shape.

IV. In the game arena Pith amounts would be depicted by Elemental signs behind the Mage. Soul Pith would be displayed above the Mage’s head.

V. Each creature or construct summoned would have a few different standard attributes.
I. Force – Its attack score
II. Mettle – Its Defensive score
III. Also included would be its Pith cost and any Pith resistances it might inherently have.

The game sequence would be very familiar to other card game veterans and very easy for new players.

I. Pith Recouping Stage – Pith levels are gained
II. Any spell affects or creatures costs
III. Draw Phase
IV. Spell Casting Phase
V. Attack Phase
I. Spells can be cast before combat, and as each defender is declared.
VI. Combat resolved
VII. Last Spell casting
VIII. Creatures that are dead are sent to your Crypt.
IX. End of Turn

Some questions and problems I am working through at this very moment.

I. How is Pith gained and reclaimed?

II. What are spells, creatures, etc. contained in before be cast? Spells? Tokens? Amulets?

III. Game name ideas so far is this, “Sanctus Libri: The Primordial Evoking”

IV. How would spells, creatures, constructs, and relics be shown? Right now I would think just textures on a flat square, however, eventually; I would like to do 3D models.

ANY ideas, thoughts, comments, criticisms, whatever! Is VERY welcome!!!

There it is guys ... as I said, VERY much a work in progress, and sorry for any weird spacing issues, I copied that from a Word document.

I have been working on something very similar to your idea actually. Also in the initial stages and I'm sure it will be quite some time before I have anything conrete in SL. I guess the point of my post then is to make it apparent that I have had a similar idea, so that if you get yours on the ground first people don't think I just copied you :).

But also I just wanted to tell you your idea sounds great. It would be interesting if we ended up collaborating on different aspects of our projects together. I think my idea is different enough from yours that both can exist in harmony... anyway I have to get going (at work), but definitely keep us posted!

i was working on a very similar idea (with 3D models instead of 2D textures!) last year.. it looked really cool, but (i believe) it fell apart. we even started a game makers group called Game Masters.

anyhoo, very cool idea and i hope this one actually sees the light of day. (there have been multiple attempts at this very thing)

maybe there could be an initial orientation where one could earn Pith via experience/invlovement in the learning stage? fromt here it could be earned via the game, defeat a creature = Pith, defeat opponent = Pith, and so on?

and you can mix the problem of what to carry them in and how they're presented into one item. say you use small gems that are named according to what they hold and colored according to what type of Pith it is. now you would place one of these into a control board in front of you, which would then rez the speel/creature/relic/etc. within the playing field.

grab a really good scripter and you could have the "control boards" figure out what happens according to what is played (type vs. type, strength vs. strength, etc.).

hope this has helped at least a little, i'll be on my way for now..

..and good luck!! :)

Cybin,

I really like the idea of small gems holding creatures and spells, then using that gem to summon or cast. The control board would be cool as a focal point for everything happening in the game.

As for Pith, I am not sure how I want to approach this yet. I dislike the idea of Pith = Wins, becuase then people who win alot have an unfair advantage over those who lose alot or even those who just start. In Magic the Gathering, mana is good like that, as both wizards have random chances for brining in mana, so even the most expeirenced wizards can still have a mana dry spell.

For example lets say a two Mages walk up to an arena, how would the game progress? Here is my idea, they both enter in a box containing a set number of gems. These gems are spells, creatures, relics and constructs and Pith. The control board takes all the gems, reads in their info, randomizes them and then become the "Draw" mechanism.

Just some ideas ...
