As many of you know I've been involved with DarkLife for a while, but only an on and off again Second Life player. Mostly whenever I explore I find casinos and porn and malls and it is pretty tedious stuff. I find the only way to get to good content is to have it recommended to me.

Thus, today, I went exploring with Pypo Chung as my guide (ta!) and saw Toxia and DCS2 as well as the Samurai Combat isles. WELL DONE! It's so exciting to see some neat, new, and deep content in SL!

Toxia reminded me of the old World of Darkness MUSHs I used to play, and everyone was pretty seriously roleplaying. I didn't even mind the strippers and whatnot as it was so well done and in-character with the place ;)

Samurai Islands, beautiful, great looking combat system.

I've also been to Midian and Wasteland before, but I don't know much about these places.

But one thing came to mind. WHY WEREN'T THESE PLACES FAMOUS?!

Most people I know who have tried SL find only porn, furries and casinos and malls and find them tedious, it can be REALLY HARD to find good content unless you know what you're looking for.

This is one of the reasons I created the GameSLave wiki back in the day (it died, DB crash) and one reason I love Onder Skall's games blog ( http://slgames.wordpress.com )... us in games need to promote each other!

Which leads me to my point: Those of us working in games should help promote each other. I think perhaps an in-game web-ring.

We could all put a pretty device, like a small vendor, at each of our homes and have it link to interesting games throughout SL. I would also love to see other ideas to promote game content in SL. Any suggestions? I really think the clever games I see people coming up with make SL shine, lets show 'em off!

If you want to be part of an SL games in-world web-ring, drop me a note or say so here. If you have any other comments, fire away!

Part of the problem is some of these places limit avatars on their verification or age, I have tried to show some of these places to newbies and they found they can't tp to them or enter.
The necessity to limit of course is really caused by the Linden lab "create as many unverifieds as you like" promotion 6 months back.

Regardless. There are tons of games out there that people could be interested in if they had the chance.

I've start forming an in-game webring of sites, displayed by a cool little vendor to be put up at every participating location. I've had some people already sign up as keen, so if you represent a game in SL, and want to take part, get in touch.

it all depends on what you look for...when i first joined SL i found everything i was looking for...
if you wanna look for clubs you will find it...same with RP areas...or even sandboxes...
alot of time if a user finds nothing but porn...clubs...and casinos...that's because that's what there looking for...

EVERY RP sim in SL should take advantage of what Pirate is doing, and join the in-world ring. Since the trash-laden returns on SL searches will often hand you an enormous number of erroneous results...a system like the SLGame Ring is a great way to cross-promote different gaming environments...directly to the people looking for them.

Well, I know that Samurai Island either already has or definitely plans to. Esprite (one of the admins/developers of C:SI) mentioned this to everyone a little while back, and it seemed like a fantastic idea!

And many of them have additional checking requirements too. Which is fair enough, but it must be borne in mind that anything that's based on interaction with existing players will break down if your area gets too popular, because the human social brain just doesn't allow an unlimited number of friends nor even of acquaintances. I know of several people who've been kept out of RPs they were interested in simply because they didn't happen to meet the correct people at the correct time.
