Any Hard Sci-Fi Military Sims

I'm pretty new to SL, but I was wondering if there are any good hard, science-fiction military sims. I'm familiar with Splintered Rock and the Firefly stuff, but I was thinking of something more along the lines of David Weber's Honor Harrington series, Jerry Pournelles' CoDominium series, or Gorden Dickson's Dorsai. A mix of Roleplaying with military action would be great.

Thats kind of a hard question to answer. I am not sure if you are aware what you mean when you specifically say 'Military' SIMs.

There is an entire community in SL that is called the "Military Community" informally. They operate very orginized, and are composed of some 20+ small and large armies. They don't technically RP that much, more so battle and push the limits of Scripting and Building and just really endure that Military Orginizational training/settings. So it is RP in a sense, but here is what differs from an RP Military group and Official SL MIlitary Combat: The use of SL Damage System.

The damage system is a system that uses the health on the viewer/avatar to show that once you have been shot or hit ... it goes to 0, and you get teleported back to your home location. This is the sole uniform ideal that makes SL Military work as we know it, because if they could not TP back to their barracks and then re-advance, there would be a much larger chance of it not happening at all. Few reasons (Combat Meters for everyone 40+ in one SIM fighting would be EVEN MORE lag hell than it already is), and so many other reasons.

So what Im trying to get at is there are indeed a few Sci-Fi esque Military SIM's within the official community. You TP to their base, and fill out an application if you are over 3 months of age and then you are going to be based and judged on a few levels then youll be notified of acceptance/rejection. Now, keep in mind this is different than an RP Military where you could easily find a more open enrollment process.

So i'd say, try Midian City - They have a slightly futuristic Paramilitary group that operates within the city. Uhm, Midgar/Junon (FF7) very futuristic as you know. Hmm. Im not sure really but I just wanted to point that difference out to you.

There's a few military rp groups out there. Some play within a RP sim others are RP sims that are primarily devoted to scifi military rp. It just takes some searching and maybe a bit of networking. If you're looking for something like space combat RP you could try Starbase Alpha and be a crew member of a ship with the theme your looking for. Also most sci fi themed rp sims usually has a military or at least militant group within it.
