i've been dabbling with the idea of making a large scale risk game in second life. it would involve a huge board that players could run around on, and large gme peices about knee high (with an average sized av) to people. it would still be the basic game of world domination, but on a larger scale (and perhaps with a few SL extras?) my big problem is that im no scripter. i couldent script my way out of a wey oily paper bag, but i am a great builder, designer and a decent texture artist, so really i just need to find a few capable scripters to help out. animators adn texturers wont be turned down ether, nor will good old hardcore risk fans! is there any interest in this kinda thing, or is it just annother isolated pipe dream?

My scripting isn't up to Massive Boardgame level yet. I was thinking of something like Monopoly for SL, with 10m2 squares in popular locations, but that would requre reliable sim-crossings or site-to-site TP.
Yes. A ginormous game of RISK.

Hey there, had this idea once myself, just didn't feel up to taking it on as I've had so much on my plate. Give me an idea of what you need for scripts and I can throw at least some basic onces together for you and your crew to work off of (if you can understand my undercommented code ). I love to see ppl taking advantage of what the SL environment can bring to gaming. I wont' be able to spend hours a day on this project, but I can definitely help you on the right direction. I've also recently released a similar game (in so far as a Risk game could likely use similar code in many parts) and wouldn't mind giving pointers, if needs be.

Err, call me crazy, but would a board game really need scripts? I mean, the ones in real life don't have them, you could just give the pieces physics and set the 'allow anyone to move' option, right?

On the other hand, having a certain amount of scripted assistance to help enforce the rules is handy, and, y'know, since it CAN be done...

Also, setting the objects to physics is somewhat dangerous. llPushObject..

so far i have all the units made (soldier, calvalry, cannon) and im working on making a map.. the figures are about knee high, and the map will likely be around 50x60 or so, so it wont be a sim sized board like some people seem to think.. so far i plan on making each country a prim, and give them color change scripts for the commanding general. unfortunatly, i only have the building skill, not the scripting skill. so PLEASE try to get ahold of me in game if your interested

I've worn-out six Risk boards since I started playing in 1966. I'd love to help with the scipting, but, until around mid Sept. I'm too busy with other projects. I could start maybe the third week in Sept. Could you please provide a list of functions that you would like to have scripted? Also a list of functionality that you might like to have added to the rule set? Many years ago, I designed a hybrid of Risk and Third Reich, played on a Risk board, with about nine counter-types. Most of the folks who played it seemed to like it, playing several games of it, over time. I'd like to see others' ideas for enhancing Risk, yours for instance.

Risk + Battlefield = ?
08-25-2005 14:53
I've been wondering about a team game combining elements of Risk and Battlefield. The strategic Risk moves change the position and frequency of spawn points and capture locations. Once the spawn points are set, players teleport to the spawns and shoot it out FPS Battlefield style to capture territory rather than using dice to work out combat resolutions. It might be good, it might be mayhem, it's probably worth prototyping to find out

Scripting risk without including rules - A pain, but do-able. Scripting risk with rules - Dear god no thanks. =P

If YOu don't already have a scripter for this I'd be very interested. I am a good scripter and have made games in SL before so I have a decent amount of experience, and don't think Risk would be that hard at all. I also have lots of time on my hands right now so I'll try to contact you in-game
