Note: Smart Track is still under construction but is playable. I could use some help during testing so please give it a whirl. If you find any problems, please let me know. Right now you will usually find a simple small test track rezed to play on as I develop the main game engine. Huge complex themed tracks will be available soon. If you are wondering what Smart Track is please read below...
Smart Track is not just a racetrack. It is a complete racing game system including combat modes. The owner can automatically rez tracks from the central console. The themed tracks will range from small and simple to large and complex including jumps, tubes, moving barriers and the like. These tracks are intelligent. They have many waypoints and can determine if a player is going the right way or if they cheat by skipping a substantial section. They also recognize certified Smart Cars.
As you go around the track, it calculates your progress and reports your lap times and your total race time. The main console also keeps track of records and displays winners and record holders on the trophy display and also on the huge digital sign. The owner can set the console to allow up to 6 racers. There are modes for free racing, and pay per use. The console can also be set to give a percentage of the pot to the winning racer (when more than one person races).
Smart Cars will be given out free by the main console and are required for play. The cars feature many details like real working gears, HUD (Heads Up Display) speedometers, vanity plates that set to owners initials, rich sound effects and much more.
Best of all are the nitro and combat options. Depending on the owner settings, the track can be made to rez nitro boost and weapon power ups. Once you get these power ups by driving over them on the track you can select them on your HUD. Up to four weapons can be obtained including a gun, rocket launcher, bomb, and EMP disrupter. As you damage other cars they become slower. Cars slowly heal or can heal faster by getting health power ups.
The players can view the settings of all of these options via the floating text display on the main console. This display will show the track name, number of race laps, maximum number of racers (1 to 6), cost to race, winner pot percentage, public verses group only use, disqualify lap time, nitro status, and combat status. The owner or track manager can control all of these settings.
I hope to have the system done by the end of January. This will depend how busy I am RL. The basic game unit, which will include a few free tracks, will soon be for sale. Then I will make additional tracks that the owner can add to the rez list. I hope to eventually have dozens of tracks available. I will also sell special Smart Cars with different body types and slightly different performance stats. For example, I may make an armored car that has more health but has a slightly lower top speed. If you want to help beta test the game as I develop it, send me an IM.
