Hi everyone, I'm a student at the Utrecht School of the Arts. At the moment I'm graduating in the Game Design & Development pathway. I'm working on a self-motivated practical project, supported by a theoretical thesis. Check this link for the full story: http://openbrainsurgery.wordpress.comAlthough I have a general idea about making use of the SL community I'm having some trouble making a solid plan for an engaging game in SL. Therefore, as a general overview, I like to ask what YOU would like to play in SL? Please keep in mind that I'm looking for an interesting design challenge, not a technical challenge. So don't ask for something that is near-impossible to create with the SL tools. I'm looking forward to your thoughts and ideas.

Shuffleboard, Pub Type.
Haven't seen one yet in SL.

I've always thought it'd be interesting to make a game that intergrates with the way that people play SL as a game (all the house owning and roleplaying families and stuff) rather than being a separate game in itself. Something like the way The Sims works maybe, or perhaps homewear that goes into disrepair if not maintained or something.

Hovok 2+ won't be coming until the advantages of it outweigh the time it'll take to impliment it. And, yes, I realise you meant for SL. But what game do you want to play that needs better physics?

EVERYTHING WOULD BE BETTER WITH BETTER PHYSICS.... even the lag would be better.... harder to crash sim... i think
and thats a great idea.. just give 2 and 3 a miss and skip straight to 4

When Will Havok FX Be Released? See this and then you see why ppl are frustrated...

And, yes, I realise you meant for SL. But what game do you want to play that needs better physics? Havok Physics™ is a major innovation in game physics and sets the bar for next-generation games. Based upon the award winning Havok Physics 2 SDK that has been licensed by over 70 clients and shipped in over 50 titles, Havok Physics introduces Continuous Physics™, an innovative technology that frees up production time by eliminating design limitations that stem from high-velocity game objects. Unlike current generation physics systems, which utilize only discrete physics, Havok's Continuous Physics offers an extra level of integrity to your game, and removes restrictions and fix-ups that sap production time that restricts the design of your game. Havok Physics also incorporates robust memory optimizations crucial for simulating physics in complex game environments on next-generation platforms. Havok Physics provides comprehensive SDK support for the following areas: Collision Detection - including Continuous Physics™ MOPP™ Technology - for compact representation of large collision meshes Dynamics and Constraint Solving Vehicle Dynamics Data Serialization and Art Tool Support Visual Debugger for in-game diagnostic feedback When Will Havok FX Be Released? Some ideas include: Havok FX will be released in Q2 of 2006. http://www.havok.com/

Havok FX could give people with new graphics cards nicer particle effects. That's it I'm affraid.
For other games, while it's going to give us some very pretty explosions, I've read there isn't enough badwidth to the graphics card to actually use it for world physics. Could lead toward a general chip for simulating worlds though, which would be kinda cool.

Im sorry if you thought I was pushing Havok Fx...actually was just showing a lot of the stuff available. www.havok.org Shows all the options and the fact that a lot of the updates are there, its now up to US the masses to push for these integrations. Das Vadanya - W p.s - Come to Arcadia 1 and check out Tech Warfare at the 3rd Annual SL Games Expo and you can see some of the most advanced scripting and applictions of Havok 1 used in games today...hence the reason it is becoming the hottest game in SL.
