Advice wanted

I have been back in time a big playe of tribes2 and planetside , i am working on some kind of large scale team based combat system in sl

-it keep scores and ranking for each players , all the time
-allow to create clans with custom logo and colors
-allow to make alliances between clans (friendly fire between the clans do not change scores)
-allow to make wars between clans (being killed by an enemy clan make you loose more rank but you can get more if its you that kill the enemy)
-a system of ban allow to remove cheaters/griefers/team killers from the game permanently
-a capture and hold network of bases that take advantage of the SL grid, basically anybody can place a base on his land(some rules are set to prevent abuses) and it automatically add the said base ad the sim it is in into the global network, teams can then fight to take control of the said bases.

now my problem is the following,

-how do you as an sl resident feel that the sim you live in could host team battles to control a base one of your neightbor hs placed?
-if the weapons are no push no dammage (they only obey to my game system) would you feel griefed if you happened to take a lost bullet?
-do you see any automated way to add the cheaters to the ban list? my problem is the higher i put the security , the slower the game system is responding, but with an effective banning system nobody would try to cheat anyway since they couldn't profit of it.

I dont want or like something like this as neighbour - BUT I have chosen to live at a place (Otherland) that this never will happen.. BUT as you asked. No tks.. please..

I dont like to have a casino or club or trailer park as neighbour - Thats why I have chosen to live in a zoned area..

I can try understand that there are people that love this things so why not gather them and buy an own sim - as Gor people and similar have done?

If it doesn't push ME, or affect my avatar, or rez items on my land... I couldn't care less. XD Well, that, and as long as it doesn't bring the sim to a crashing halt (or affect my operations). If it's nice to the sim... who's to say? XD

werll the proble is however it "could" touch you since the guns still use prim based bullets, so technically you can send an abuse report

As long as something like a spaceship or giant robot doesn't come crashing into my property. Maybe have everyone in the desired area be on a list that if any of them are at home at the time, you cannot use that area. Also sound effects and debris would have to be kept to a minimal, maybe only HUD based?

What if the bullets came out as phantom? Would they still detect their target? Again, as long as it's not a cannon ball or something noticable (misfired nuke). How about setting up a parimiter (area fence) that detects items used within the game and deletes them/blocks from passing over into neibouring parcels?

Could the armor system detect who the Owner, Group or Creator was? If it's not on the list, you get banned and ejected from the area :).
(guessing): IF Owner/Group is not equal to "Blargh" then kick user

look at it from a different angle - have your weapons / bullet effects only work on people 'in the game'.

This way if you shoot someone not in the game your bullet simply dies. if it strikes someone in the game they go through the effects of the bullet (being knocked back - animating - blood flying - whatever).

This is to say - your game hud/armor/ whatever holds the effects (anims blah blah) - think like a shield, only in reverse, an anti-shield.

The worst thing that *could* happen is absolutely nothing.

And if its planned to be an opt in grid wide game - that would be the best solution.

I suppose you might figure out a way to make the bullet on collision with a non-game avatar to llSay("A stray bullet from <name of RPG> has hit you, we are sorry. We hope that it did not cause any problems.";); or something?
Probably too much...
Possible to track non-players (i.e. log UUIDs) of people who get hit, if they are new, send the message and log UUID?

He's planning a grid-wide combat RP, there IS NO set location.
