Ever felt like hopping into a tank and blowing the crap out of your best friends?

Yeah, me too!

I don't usually advertise for others, but this is a fun item that deserves it: Starax Statovsky (who already makes some amazing stuff) had somewhat recently added battle tanks to his magic wands. Upon talking to him about the game applications of such vehicles, he just released his Battle Tanks at Avalon for L$1000 .... this gives you one battle tank you can rez for yourself (or set up multiples around the world for target practice)

The commands are basic, arrowkeys to drive around, PGUP/PGDOWN to angle the turret (from +32 to -12 angle, in 4-degree increments), and either type f(enter) to fire the cannon.

Griefer notes: The tanks are pretty much griefer-free. The shells are harmless to anyone that's not in a tank, they have no push, they do throw up a spray of particle dirt when hitting the ground but this is hardly a reason to complain. Bystanders are subject to being shoved by someone driving a tank with no regard to pedestrians, but that is inherit to all vehicles and not just the tank. Drive with care - these lil' beasts can really kick up the dirt!

DISCLAIMER: I'd recommend a lot of space -- you may want to try to make a deal with a private sim owner that has empty, undeveloped land available to play... owners of private islands may not appreciate coming home to find a dozen people blowing each other up in tanks, or they may appreciate the dwell. Who knows? Best to ask the owners first if you can borrow the land when they are not.

Shell impacts close enough to a tank destroy the tank, ejecting the driver into the air (sometimes quite far up!) and causing the tank to start spewing smoke. At this point the tank automatically de-rezzes in 1 minute if not manualy deleted and the defeated driver must spawn a new tank. A direct hit on the turret has the added satisfaction of blowing it right off, causing the turret itself to sail into the air and clunk down beside the tank.. a sign of a brilliant hit!

For those that have Starax's wand: THe tanks from the wand seem to be enterable by anybody, but the bought tanks are only enterable by the owner; so anyone wanting to drive a tank will have to get their own.

They are copy/nomod/notransfer.

Here's some piccies! :)

Getting set up behind cover.

Motoring across the countryside. These babies can really haul! THey can also climb some alarmingly steep slopes.

Boom ---- WASTED!

The Battle Tanks Championship Trophy I've designed (and a look at the Raptors/Lobos team flags too)

Starax mentioned at one point the possibility of creating other vehicles for the game... we'll see where this goes in time, hopefully.

The proto-tankers of the world emerge in SL.

I hope these things can't leave the sim ... they'd really tear up neighbor's lawns if they did.

It's pretty harmless fun as the bottom line, no blood, no cheaters, it's like 'Scorched Earth' revisited... just in more of an action format.

ACtually, the tanks sometimes cease to function if crossing a sim border, so actually, playing in a private sim is the more advantageous way to go... but like the disclaimer says above... Starax can't be held responsible for people that use people's property as a parking lot... the responsibility for use of a vehicle lies in its owner. As said before... the tanks are pretty much the same as any car you can get in SL...they just shoot harmless projectiles.... well, harmless unless you're also in a tank and being aimed at.

People have a right to be upset if they believe they are being shot at, whether harmlessly or not. Bottom line: Use the tanks to fight other tanks. Don't go using them to bother people not interested in playing with you that don't have their own tank.

Now.. does anyone have about a half-sim sized area of land, build-OK and script-OK, they would be willing to 'rent out' for tank battling? :)

Edit: At a cost of L$1000 for the tank, it's also good to note that not everyone will be able to rush out and buy these. We're not going to be overrun by thousands of tank drivers... :)

If only the real "civilians" could be so protected

Civilian immunity from the tank fire is a good thing. Wish we could implement it in RL.

Now, can these scripts interact with simlar armaments that may be designed for fixed and rotary wing SL aircraft? I see an Apache gunship peeking over the brow of yonder hill, with a TOW targeted on the unsuspecting tanker. Or an A-10 stitching them with cannon fire and a few HellFire missles? Might make the battle more interesting.

"We're gonna need a bigger sim ..."

I should buy one just to see if I can fit into it. Then I should get a decent military uniform...
