Hi, my name is Iono Boa. I've been working on a non-profit mining system for Second Life and wanted to get some input from the croud. The system is currently up and working, but has alot of room for improvement.

Our website is : www.slmining.com
Location : Amberaldus (221,53,81)
Classified Search : SLMining

To use the mining system, visit the mining camp to acquire a mining pick. The mining camp is located Amberaldus (221,53,81). To use a pick simply equip it and left click on the nearby ground. Each pick has a limited number of digs available to it. When the digs have all been used it can be discarded. While digging, the pick will whisper to you when you have found a deposit. You will also be informed of the type of mineral found and its value. You receive payment for the value of the deposit immediately.

The mining system is perpetual which means all income, from the sale of picks, is directly converted into mineral deposits. This allows the deposits to grow in proportion to the usage. A given deposit can be found in one of 3 depth ranges. Each depth range has a corresponding pick that is capable of detecting minerals within that range.

When a mineral deposit is discovered, payment is made to the claim owner immediately and a new deposit is spawned somewhere else in SL. Every deposit has physical location in SL and our database currently has over 20k deposits distributed throughout SL. This means you can mine anywhere in SL.

When a pick is purchased a percentage of the income goes to 3 random deposits, one in each of the 3 depth ranges. The percentage that goes to each depth range is tunable based on the number of users within each range.

The minerals found in SL are listed below with their corresponding depth ranges.

Level 1 (Depth Range = -100 to 0)
Quartz
Calcium
Sulfer
Pyrite
Obsidian

Level 2 (Depth Range = -200 to -100)
Beryl
Tourmaline
Cordierite
Onyx
Amethyst

Level 3 (Depth Range = -300 to -200)
Diamond
Gold
Silver
Platinum
Silver

I hope my description has been adequate, if you have questions or suggestions please respond to this thread as your opinions are welcome.

Thanks

this sounds like a fantastic system, and i cant wait to test it out! our Rp sim has been looking for something like this for many months now, and we may end up talking to you in person soon, if all goes well..
have you considered expanding it to cover other materials as well? (lumberjack diffrent types of trees with an axe, fishing diffrent depths and areas with rods and nets, farming diffrent grains with a sycthe, and smelting your ores with a fire and anvil?)
if so then we'll definatly want to talk to you in game soon ;)

Second Life is the perfect environment for creating interactive games. And that is just what we have done for you. We bring you Nugget Gulch The Game. We created a game situated in and around an abandoned ghost town somewhere in the American country. This game is unlike any other game in Second Life. You as a gold miner or prospector can find real gold and earn real cash!

Nugget Gulch is a forgotten ghost town abandoned by its residents. What only few people know is, there is still a tresure in gold hidden in the mountains. Get your tools and try your luck. You might find your super nugget today! We have about 70.000 worth of objects hidden in the Sim today!

The game is situated in the most lovely authentic scenery known to Second Life. The goal of the game is to find as many valuable objects in this desert and the mountains as you possibly can within a given timespan. You can find Gold, Silver, Coins, Spurs, etc. Below you will find a list of possible finds and their value. The Nugget Gulch Developer Team is constantly working to improve the game and the scenery. As the game will grow we will add new exiting features and interactivity. We try to bring you the best possible, authentic atmosphere. The Nugget Gulch Sim is not an RPG but we like our visitor to blend in with the scenery as much as possible.

Other Worlds and Sims
As we grow we are looking for other worlds and Sims to connect to our game. Island owners who are interested in becomming part of the game can use the contact form on this site for information. The Nugget Gulch Goldmine Game can be setup on your island to! Just contact us and we help you set up your theme. Look under locations to see a list of available Sims where you can search for gold.

I find it's pretty common for two different people to have the same idea. Best not to cast vague accusations around unless you're willing to back them up, people.

Hi Iono,

well, we came up with the idea at december 2006. Next i have build a testsite under a big building that i used to have in Gnoma. Because a lot of people liked the scenery and the idea i worked hard to earn some cash to buy an island dedicated to the Nugget Gulch story. I hired animators and scripters and here we are now. Bringing you a perfect environment and some fun to. And the best of it is other island owners can hook up with us.

Like Pirate says, sometimes the same idea is born in multiple places.

Cheers,

Ami
