And here's why (some random gamer's rant on the weaknesses of console games):

Check the article, and think on how much more flexible SL is than a console game environment.

How can SL address the specifics of his / her argument?

For starters, the article strikes me as more a diatribe about the state of the gaming industry than an actual "argument."

That aside, Second Life is in many ways ahead of its time in the "world building" market. Counterpoint, it's in many ways behind the times in the game design market.

Currently, you can buy professional tools like the Torque Game Engine for a very reasonable price. I happen to be a Torque enthusiast myself, for a lot of reasons - one being the fact the creative base is more focused than Second Life's is.

I think it's getting there. Second Life can address "game concerns" in many ways, particularly by the fact it has very low barriers to entry. Second Life is simple-minded in the game department, for better and for worse.

I feel it's getting there, though. As LL continues to hire, its potential for seeing professional results is on the rise. With the move to monocode and a "materials" rendering system, the creative output of Second Life will see a major change.

What will happen at that time? We'll have to just wait and see.
