After reading through the incredibly dense boilerplate surrounding a seemingly-popular roleplaying sim...I'm simply stunned. It implies that the dialogue, storylines, and character interactions which occur within that sim to belong to the SIM OWNER...and not the player's character. In addition to using a meter that rewards its residents simply for spending time in the sim...this act of sheer ego-bloat seems to be mind-blowing in its arrogance. I mean, claiming intellectual property claims on MY roleplay? Frankly, it's enough to make me want to NEVER set foot in the actual RP area...much less take advantage of their "residential" opportunities. I'd really like to hear what others think about this.

"Belong?" I guess I have to ask, who cares? Is there a market out there for computer nerd roleplay transcripts?
(I roleplay too here and there, so I'm making fun of myself).

Role play is the property of no one except the people doing it.
Imagination is free, anyone that tells you different has their hand in your pocket looking for your wallet.

Just my opinion but seems to me the key words here are "Sim Owner".
Do you have a problem with the Sim Owner setting theirs own rules or is it you just don't like the rules?
If you are against Sim Owners setting rules for their sim, I doubt you will get much sympathy.
If it's just the fact that you don't like the rules of this Sim, well that's an easy one to solve. Don't RP there.
That said, I would agree that these particular rules are a bit extreme but hardly worth getting upset about.

What bothers me is this...say I visit SimX...and by doing so agree to their rather draconian TOS by poking around and RPing. I see something intriguing, and say to myself:
"Hmmmm, Self. You know that's an interesting situation. Maybe I can take that a bit further and build my own sim around that!"
Well...according to the TOS of SimX...that would be a violation of their intellectual property rights. And if, by chance, MY derivative idea somehow becomes popular enough to possibly attract people away from SimX...THEN the litigious ridiculousness can begin.
Far fetched? Possibly. But it's a pain in the *ss, regardless. I just have to wonder...why did they even feel the need to include that in their TOS, at all?
