At one shop I saw that someone made different translators for various fantasy languages. I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction of how to build one myself. Manythanks.

Hello Coreman, I think that I understand a little bit your question, and I hope my answers helps you on your research. Well.. as you've seen there are a lot of online translators from: English-Spanish.. Spanish-English.. English-French.. French-English... etc And fantasy languages (my favourite one, called Qwenya, a language created by J.R.R. Tolkien for the Elvish) are not so different. I just searched on google and I found this website: http://quenya.tripod.com/translator.htm (it's not good in my point of view but it is a good example) My point is that you only need to send the text so that the website can process your request (HTTP_POST, if you're familiarized with PHP & HTML) and then you only read the result for your script. I'm not sure if you can do it directly with LSL because you need to know perfectly the language you want to translate to. And once you get all the 'grammar structure', 'verbal tenses' & 'words', you'll need a lot of virtual memory (in Second Life) to do this process. It means a lot of work for you, and a lot of work for SL server) So I recommend you to use that free online dictionaries/translators to avoid your project. If you're going to make a Quenya Translator, please don't use that website. The translations are terrible. |

If you're going to make a Quenya Translator, please don't use that website. The translations are terrible. Well, truth be told, it is better described as a cipher. Not being rude to you but in case if you don't know what that means it means that one letter is replaced with another letter(stating this mostly for people that come across the topic out of curiousity). For example, a backwards alphabet cipher is A=Z B=Y C=X, etc. So it wouldn't be as hard as replacing grammer structure and all that. Probably only things needed to be done is make sure that -Proper nouns, objects, and titles do not change. Maybe put a symbol like * next to the word so that the translator does not translate that word. It is mainly a fantasy cipher from a game I like. I want to try and allow easy learning of the language by having a HUD that takes what is written on screen and shows both the english and the cipher translation. |

It somewhat looks like what I want but I am trying to understand where I put the cypher/cipher in it. normally in a listen event with a switch with cypher <--> decypher, it can be a HUD or a chat command. Tip: Try to post it in scripting help in that place more pople intrested in help you can find your post. Post your old post with what you have at this point. _____________________
