Looking for some ideas guys. I've created a game similar to MasterMind. (try to guess a 4 colour pattern and you get told whether the colours you chose are in the right spot, or just in the answer).
If I want people to be able to use my game to make money or payout a pot or anything, I need to figure out what would be considered a fair way of paying out. I have a few ideas, maybe you have opinions on them or have an idea of your own?
1. It pays out if you get it before X number of lines, which, when you get good is really low, since after all my testing I can usually get it in 4-5, where 8 is a good finish for most people.
2. I keep track of all of the finishing times, and then payout at the end of the night to the best time. (I says times and not rows, because there might be tons of people with 4 rows, so the chance of a massive tie is too great).
3. If you beat the current fastest time the pot is payed out to you. When the time is slow, the pots will be small because alot of people will be winning, as the high score goes up and up less people win and the pots start getting bigger because more people are losing. (this is currently the way I have it working).
Maybe there isn't a way to make a good payout system for this game, and maybe it just needs to be for fun, but everyone like winning Linden and it adds more excitement to a game. If you have an ideas opinions let me know.
ps. If anyone wants to see it, IM me (Salem Penguin) in world, I'll gladly show it to you and let you test your brain against it =)

Aww, someone suggested I make this game yesterday and I was gonna do ti today, lol. Oh well, beat me to it.
A lot of ppl will say not to go with timed stuff, cause lag will scew it up blah blah blah. I have a networked progressive pot game that is timed and I have never had an issue. I would say option 2 is your best bet. And you dont' need to keep track of every time, in fact that would be hell to your scritp's memory. Just compare to current fastest and swap it if someone beats it, then reset it every 12 or 24 hrs or whatever and pay out to leader.

Well, I don't use timers per say, you can get away without them. Just check the time at the start, and check the time at the end, then do the math. No lag there.

Hes right. Just keep track of the fastest time, and pay out to that person or persons if you want multiple winners. Say you want to have 1st 2nd and 3rd place winners per day. Of course you charge a small fee to play the game, and the pot grows. you keep track of the top 3 scores, and set a payout similar to the following: 1st place: 65% of the pot 2nd place: 20% of the pot 3rd place: 10% of the pot You keep 5% of the pot Hope this helps. I do this with some of my casino games. Poker anyone?

I think I saw one such game available free near the TLC...
