I've been really itching to DJ on SL with my Mac but I don't know what software I need to use. Hopefully something that's not 300 dollars if possible XD. I need something where I can use my own MP3's to DJ.

Can anyone tell me how I should go about this? Btw, I am running Leopard OSX. TY.

If you just want to play mp3's from your computer your doing REAL Dj's like myself and Second Life a diservice....

If you actually have skills and can mix and do more than click play on a computer program I would be happy to give you the information you need.

You can find me in game and chat me up whenever you like, just let me know who you are please, I get A LOT of IM's all the time.

Use *nicecast*.
http://rogueamoeba.com/nicecast/

This is a great software, and very intuitive to operate. I did not have to read any manual to start, and easily DJ on the first day without any *technical difficulties*. lol Basically, one of the most pain-free software overall i have ever seen.

Good thing is that you can try for 20minutes for free. (Longer than 20 minutes, they will overlay some noise.) The good thing about Nicecast is that it costs only 40$. :) The company makes other great plug-in for Mac, if you so inclined as well.

Interesting function is Skype call in feature. You can connect to other residents and you can discuss some SL drama on-air, which could be very interesting...

As for the *real DJ* ... lol It is up to you to invest in all those equipment and other software, since there are few ways to achieve that, but whether you will just cue up some music on iTuens or doing *real DJ*(lol again... it takes more than having a equipment, if you get my drift.) you still need some sort of software to have same function as Nicecast, to be DJ in SL.
(for that matter, not only for just DJ, but also for live performer, as well.)

there's a proverb: The market will regulate it. I don't see why giving him information about the software you use will hurt your SL business. If he doesn't have any skills no one will hire him. It's that simple.

I haven't tried my hand on DJing in second life, but I DJ in RL with my Mac. For a software pretty much the best thing you can get is Traktor DJ Studio from Native Instruments. It's about 200$, but well worth the price.

Another must for good mixing is some controller device. Either you subscribe to the old school and get a set of turntables, along with the controller vinyl to mix in traktor, or you get one of the specialized controllers. I think vestax makes one that looks quite solid. But one of these two options is a must. You just can't mix right with only one finger at a time (i.e. your mouse pointer).

Traktor has streaming bulit in, you will need a streaming server to send your stream to, you can rent those from within SL.

A few quick pointers. I hope that helps.

Good luck!

Cheers
Tanith.

Personally, I can't stand mixing. I like DJs that know about music, play interesting sets and introduce me to new stuff. I HATE DJs that are pseudo wanna be musicians and think mixing songs together is some sort of musical art form. If you have talent, go write a freaking song and quit hagging on people that actually enjoy music as written and played.

Hey, I haven't heard a DJ in SL do the skype thing. I would love to go somewhere where they are doing that. Very cool.

I been using SAM4 to stream. I just switiched to mac. I been meaning to get into REAL DJing as we are calling it here. Switching to using the whole turntable and the such. But while I get better at that, is Tracktor a lot like Sam4? Does it have all the features that sam4 has?
