Extended Linking!

It would be great if we can link objects greater than 20M apart.

Right now we build a lot of projects, and we always seem to have to deliver to customers in 2-3 sets. One recent project had to be delivered in a set of close to 20 (a road system for an Island that we were hired to do)

Particularly bothersome are the houses - 1 house can come in a set of 3 peices (soemtimes more) - and can be frustratingly cumbersome to reassemble to the same specification.

Whilst you're thinking about Linking, I think it would be useful also if:

a) You could add or remove individual prims to/from an existing group.

b) The rotation bug when linking items was fixed (individually prims rotate as intended but when you link them the child prim completely changes its rotation axis - and returns to normal when you unlink it).

The max. linkdistance limit is more like 30 m.

You can also draw a rectangle around multiple linksets in Edit and do a TAKE, and they will appear as a single entity in inventory. When rezzed, they'll rez in place. Worth experimenting with a few unlinked cubes to get a hang of it.

This can be done... Edit Linked Parts, click on a single prim (or shift-click for several), then Unlink. Then uncheck Edit Linked Parts and move the rest of the object away to confirm results. :)

There are also tools out there that will allow you to box your larger builds into an auto-rez system. For resale (copy/trans), they are a bit pricey but I've found it is well worth the extra cost to have auto-rez and the customers love it. Check rez-foo....

And while were talking about buldin...

For the love of Pete put in some Align options! Having to align things by hand and typing in the numbers is a tedious and time consuming processs. The 'grid to selection' option half works....I'm a nitpicky builder and getting things alinged perfectly so there's no tearing or bleed through from the other side is quite a job sometimes, requiring one to zoom in to almost microscopic levels. (If I'm missing something here, as I am fairly now, someone please correct me :) )

ALSO - Ability to stretch an axis by using the controls and only extend out one side and not the other.

I think linking should allow any sized object, so long as the prims are all touching or there isn't a greater than 20 meter gap between prims. So like, you couldn't make a house with a detached garage (at least, not one that far from the house proper), but you could make a house any size you wanted and have it fully linked because all the prims are touching. Obviously this also falls under the linked prims per object restriction, but it would at least allow you to make the shell of a house without it being broken into two or three pieces.

You have my vote for align tools, let's get some votes for Prop 112! (llSelected function and selection* events). With these scripting functions we could design our own Align tools. I'm half way there only to realize I need said functions to finish. You can see my attempt in at Heatsync in Patagonia.

One quick note. Please be careful with products like Rez-foo that advertise the ability to"Rez, Move and Rotate and Move HUGE buildings with Ease." This is not my experience with Rez-Foo, at least not "with ease." I simply did not have the time to trouble-shoot and fiddle to make it work. I am more interested in providing content than scripting and in hindsight should have arranged a demo copy.

The vendor does not give refunds if the product is not satisfactory to user; user support was offered but I've reached my max on spending time on the product, since I have pressing chores in SL. So my non-profit group has a $5000 L script that is non-transfer, non-return and currently gathering dust in my inventory. So be warned!

This can be done. I am at work so I cant tell you for sure what the box says. I think it is something like "stretch both sides". I beleive the default is that it's checked so if you uncheck it you can stretch just one side. Hope this helps.

I've recently tried my hand at building construction, and people's requests for an increase to linking distances have never resounded more clearly in my ears. I was told that the maximum link distance was 10m, but for some odd reason I've been unable to link prims 5m apart. Also, I managed to link a 30m tall tree trunk, including some branches near the top, but was unable to link the next 10m of trunk above those branches dispite it not being any farther apart than the previous trunk segments. >/
