when I am shopping and looking at the displays or looking at paintings they are often the last thing to load. I think there should be an option to selectively load a certain object's textures before surrounding textures by clicking on the object, or possibly stop loading the texture of something that you don't want to see as well.

Ahhh simply hovering your mouse cursor and letting it linger over textures you want to load first should do this. I find it useful for whole walls of product panels and then allowing one I'm interested in to focus first.
