Give Citizens the ability to pay for more than one week in classified advertisment. It gets tedious if you have alot of diferent properties and you have to renew each one every week. Some properties sometimes get left out becuase of this. So we should be able to buy a year if we wanted to.

While I think that more than one week would be nice, a year would be too long. One problem is I think that the Classifeds would get too long to browse though. Granted a search is possible, but that only works if you are looking for something particular.
Also keep in mind that the landscape of SL changes very quickly, so something staying in the same location for a year (or even the business itself staying around for a year) is quite unusual. Yes you can update the ad with a new location and information. But if you had to go out of business, leave SL, etc you will still have a ad for a defunt location listed (or at the least a blank ad). I think before too long there would be so many of these "dead" ads that would really make a mess of the classifeds after a while.

...or at least give us the option to renew each week instead of having to re-enter everything if nothing's changed.

Renew Classified each week Because a year is too long.
03-24-2006 06:16
I agree I think a weekly renewal would be a great idea. I work for a company that sends me on business trips. Luckily I havent missed out on sl yet but *what if* I were sent out on business for 4 weeks and I couldnt bring the laptop. Would my land on SL be without advertisement for 3 weeks or worse. I think we as citizens should band together and promote this feature that would allow the citizen to purchase as much time ahead as he/she/it wants. RL Classifieds do it. We need to embrace the fact that we might not be able to log in from time to time(Knock on wood) and we will need something like this so that we can set it in advance before our honeymoon or business trip or whatever. We need this and I think we should let Lindens know it. Vote prop 1179!

Classified ad
03-24-2006 09:26
Ty Kris and PetGirl Bergman thats exactly why we should vote on this and get this approved by Linden because too many people are not wanting to write 15 classified every week. If you ever wrote an ad you know what I am talking about. Too much tim eis spent and wasted each and every week Depending on how deep rooted you are you could easily write 10-15 Classifieds every week and spend hours trying to cut and paste. Lindens are you listening? We be and plead for change in this system. We know you agree with us and uderstand our frustration.

Just to share: a Classifieds autorenew function is something you might think is easy to flip a switch and do, but it hasn't been such a trivial process, but it's still important to get done. By all means, if you want this, do show your vocal support for it and cheer on--it's encouraging!

Noodle Flips the Switch
03-24-2006 09:39
Ty for your comment Torley. We understand that it is difficult to embed and write such difficult programming. We just want to kindly voice that we need this change to make things simple. It funny that you use that phrase, "flip the switch" I am sure when Edison built his first Lightbulb, he didnt think that someday it would be turned on and off at the flip of a switch. But here we are today, we have such commodity. That what were asking Lindens to consider. Please. hehe. TY again Torey.

That's inspiring, Poodle. Hehe Tina.
This is in the development queue, just to clarify.
Seems like it will just be a matter of time--but again, it's nice to know who wants this.

While we wait, since not everyone has thought of this, if you do have an ad or ads that you run every week, the smart thing to do is to write the ad on a notecard in your inventory, then when the ad runs out just set your picture, open the notecard, and select the print, use control+c to copy it, then click the message box in the ad, and use control+v to paste it. Then all you have to do is pay for the ad and you are all set, I am sure many of you do this allready, but there may be someone that benefits from this

Yes that is true, and I do that as well. However you also need to be at the location when you create the ad (or modify the ad later) for the teleport to be correct.
Nice to hear that the Lindens do have something in the works regarding this problem. I agree a "auto renew" checkmark might be the best method rather than paying for a certain period in advance. This way you don't pay for a ad if something changes (such as you no longer own that parcel, no longer make that object.....etc) you are not out the $L.

Great responses

I truly agree with your remarks. I actually did not think of an auto renew when I first proposed the feature. But I agree with you. And auto renew would be the best option. We do from time to time upgrade our lands and it would be best if we could auto renew. But I personally get paid salary every 2 weeks and it would be best for my situation if I could pay for 2 weeks in advance. Some peoples budgets allow them to only buy L$ once a month. I think both options should be looked at for convenience sake. QUESTION: (Im not sitting on my home puter so i cant check.) Can you update the current settings like teleport to a new location if you did buy a years worth and did move? This would be a great way to buy a years worth when youre in the dough and have the l$ to spend while you may not later. (The ant saving up for Winter theory) ps I want to thank all of you for taking time to post you remarks> I am glad you all have taken this issue seriously and hope that soon well see the update. Poodle cant wait

From: Maczter Oddfellow ...or at least give us the option to renew each week instead of having to re-enter everything if nothing's changed. LOVE ... love ... L O V E this idea! If we were to get a notification of some sort to let us know when the classifies are going to expire, it would be a HUGE help to manage them.

about classifieds
04-04-2006 14:21
Yes having ability to post an ad for more than one week would be great -- I am all for it -- and a suggestion for those who do have multiple ads to place -- I made a notecard on my hard drive of all the ads and items in my profile so all I have to do is copy/paste into the next weeks. You could also make a notecard and save in your inventory but this way your desired text is not lost Hope Linden considers this feature! Ms Kitty

If you are able to vote for proposals. I urge you to look at proposition 1179. It tell Lindens that we want change. I believe that they might already have it in the works but the more votes that we can get the sooner it gets prioritized. Again Thank you for you kind words and I hope to see some more votes on Prop 1179. Tell all your friends to come and check it out. This would be a great addition as the next update.

w00t! Classified autorenew is a YES as of Second Life Preview 1.9.1!From: someone - Classified ads now have an auto-renew option
- Checking the "Auto renew each week" checkbox in Profile > Classifieds will cause your classified to be republished instead of expiring after one week
- You will be charged the same listing price as the initial classified
- To change the listing price, you need to make a new classified
Check it out here!
