Sometimes I just wanna pop on SL, look at something and pop back off. Instead I have customers and friends wanting to chat etc and i can't get anything done. Busy mode pisses them off or will cause them to map you and see why you aren't answering. You can't take people off your friends list without them getting this big, heartbreaking message that you are no longer friends when all it is you just don't want them to know when you are on 24/7.

This strikes a chord with me right now--because there are times I want to reply to all the queued IMs, but they're put immediately in front of me the next time I log on, with no way to simply tuck them aside for later, when I can reply assuredly with comfort. Often, I need to pop on and off to check things inworld very quickly. I don't like losing track of things, because then I end up not replying to peeps, which makes them unhappy... and I don't like to do that. Yet, I wish I could turn off my IMs periodically like a cellphone and localize more. Putting everything in its right place. I can't say with any certainty at this point whether this will come true, but I have been sharing my opinions with other Lindens and discussions continue to come up in the process. Keeping it alive in the SL Forums for Residents of all ages will continue to light the flame. Necessity is truely the mother of this invention.

Maybe a check box in the prfrences to allow an Anonyms login, so it will not show you as online untill you take it off, and will Hold the IMs till you turn it off?

I'd love to be able to log on quickly to check something out. Yesterday, I got an email IRL that I recieved something from someone I didn't know, and logged for a second to check it out. I rezzed in between two friends. Well, there went 5 minutes!! Enjoyable, but not what I'd intended. There is, unfortunately, a "gotcha" with this concept. That is, as the title alludes to, the unfortunate problem that "annomonous" logon would facilitate wholescale 'stalking'. Yes, there is the "invisible" device (which I find totally repugnant), but at least one knows when someone is in World (and most good detectors still show avatar presence). Maybe some new type of "Busy" is a solution (i.e. "REAL Busy" . Might let you work totally unmolested with no IM's or contact possible. But, no "logged in" notice. I think not. Just floating an idea.

Well you could always create an alt with no friends thats rude and obnoxious so nobody talks to you (oh wait thats me) well anyway and give them permissions to edit your stuff

I kind of like this. Another word for it would be "Invisible login". As soon as you turn it off in-world, it is as if you logged in - friends know you're there and you get all your backlogged IMs. I'm sure this has been discussed much in previous threads. Just stating my agreement. MM

Even though your alt has build permissions you can't link mixed objects. You need something from the main account you have to log them in and the purpose is defeated. Again shifting money around is an annoyance as well. If alts were a really good solution then people wouldn't be asking for this feature on a regular basis for years.

If we were talking "sky's the limit" options I'd prefer something even a little bit more flexible.
I'd love to be able to log in and not be seen as online by anyone. I'd love to choose whether or not IM's will pop up on me while in this state. (sometimes you might want to be able to handle drahma & biz as if from an offline IM and then get back to whatever, sometimes you really need 100% focus and nothing pulling your cursor or filling the screen) I'd love to be able to have "tiers" within my calling card list such that I could choose who might be able to see me online and/or IM me while "hidden".
Let's say that there are 5 or 10 folks I'd want to hear from but no one else, or open it up to everyone or just a flagged, set of folks specific to that "hidden" session. I'm thinking of being able to use an organization system much like how gmail flags stored letters. I could then conceiviably select calling cards for just the folks in my "DJ's" or "Designers" or "Customers" or "Buddies" groupings and of that set, maybe 5 people overlap the different groups. Check boxes would allow for further refinement of the folks by which one could be contacted.
I'd also love to be able to select whether items/snaps dropped on me will pop up on the screen or maybe be minimized and flashing at the bottom, or just a text to me only notifier message. It's awful to be all focused in on something you're building and have some (fill in the blank) thing startle you, covering the page, make you shift your hand, release the prim, lose your place, etc. causing disaster, arythmia, desk pounding and other angst-ridden exhibitions.
The hidden function could certainly have griefers all drooly and such, so maybe it would only be useable on rented land? That would exclude folks, so I don't think that's too cool either. Maybe the thing to do is to only allow outbound IM's when the receipient is someone with which they've already exchanged calling cards or in responce to IM's initiated by others or by switching back to a non-hidden state.
For this to work, of course, it would need to be in Preferences so that one can select settings before one completes the login process.
I know it's a lot to ask but man oh man would it be helpful!

I strongly endorse any improvements to the IM system. I don't want to miss the IMs and if my client crashes I lose it all. So I am panicked into giving the IMs priority over talking to the person in front of me. I would like to see chat logs on my hard drive (optional setting in preferences). I'd like options to log them to folders by Name then by Date or Date then Name. Maybe even to my local database. And yeah, IM overload is scary at times. When I log in, could everyone wait about 5 mins then IM me, kthxbye.

This could be a good idea, but best limited to when you are land you own or rent. This would lessen the stalking potential, and increase percieved property value. If you really want to, you should be able to 'pull in the welcome mat' on your little piece of SL if that's how you feel, but if you're in public, you should be all-in. Same for IMs. In my own group of friends, we tend to ask first before popping in and , as far as I know, no one gets upset if they're told some version of 'not right now'. I'm not yet running a business, so I don't have the hassles connected with that. Some of my best experiences in SL have happened after being 'dragged' into some 'obligatory' social situation.
