I tried out the 1.8 (1) preview on sunday AM, and had no problem getting back into 1.7 later that day, on a Dual 2.3 G5 running latest 10.4 + updates. So, there may be something else going on there.

Don't use it ...stay with version 1.7.4 You don't have a choice really. You can't use an old client with a newer server protocol. If you can't login it's because the Lindens took it down. Duh.

You have no choice, you have to use the newest version. I am using OS X 10.4.3 with all updates and it works fine. From: herman Bergson Version 1.8 locks you out...

I'm also running 10.4.3 (on a G5 iMac), and have had absolutely no problems with the update. You're going to have to troubleshoot this further, as it's apparently NOT a 10.4 incompatibility.

Wow I bet Herman feels stupid. He tried logging in when the Lindens had the whole thing down for everyone. And now he's probably read this and cowering in a corner. lol, This is why I read the whole screen before exiting and typing up wrong information.
