How about letting us buy or rent Prims...

I recently joined as a premium member and purchased my first land. I didnt know much about building so I bought a prefab house made for the size lot I had.
Well I purchased a few items and was shocked that I was not able to use them do to the limitations placed on the amount of Prims per property owned.
I understand if I buy more land I can get more Prims that can be used but how about this idea.
Say if I really didnt need more land wouldnt it be nice to still be able to increase the amount or Prims allowed either by renting or buying them directly either as a one time purchase or as a month to month fee.
It would be less costly (perhapse) then buying more land and LL still would get cash for the Prim use.

This Idea may or may not have been discussed in the past if it has been addressed I am sorry to have brought it up. I only joined SL in Jan '06 so I havent been able to go through all the forums yet.

Comments welcome

The main problem is that the prim limit is to stop the sims having to handle too many objects at once. Simply buying more could result in unbearable lag as some person buys a ton and builds really sloppily on a tiny plot of land, ruining the sim for others.

Alternative solutions aren't particularly great either unfortunately. My thought when reading this was to have each sim with a reserve of prims that can be bought, and the more you buy, the more expensive they become, so it isn't easy to just horde this extra stash of prims for yourself.
I mean, I could do with an extra 10 or so prims on my plot of land, buying a whole other plot of land would be far too much, in terms of L$ AND in terms of the extra tier charge! Also, there is no neighbouring land to me anymore, as someone has bought it all up, just so they can leave it empty and have more prims on their first plot.
Someone else next to me had one plot of land and bought two more adjacent ones, purely because they didn't understand the concept of positiong objects (ie their house wasn't within their parcel, so instead of moving it they bought the land it WAS on =S).

It would be a really nice thing to have, but unfortunately I can see the people who could really use it, being the ones who don't get any of the extra prims anyway =(

The simplest explanation I give is that a region holds 15,000 prims. Our prim use is based on the percentage of land that we own in the region. 512m = 117 prims, 1024m = 234 prims, 2048m = 468 prims, etc. If you could just pay more money to buy prims without more land, someone else in the region would have to go without.

i have 2048 M land and only 468 prims while the person next to me in the same sim has 1024 land but with 900 + prims, i have also seen other people with land that had more then 4 X the normal amount allowed.

Most likely they are renting the land from someone else and have "purchased" extra prims. Or they own other land on the sim and are using the prim allotment from those other parcels on that plot of land. Meaning: there is most likely some land on your sim with next to nothing on it...

...those people with more prims must own additional parcels within the same sim, which you likely haven't noticed - they needn't be contiguous...excepting attachments and object on temporary res, no parcel can support more prims than the sum allocation of all parcels owned by the same person any given sim...in fact, any objects ressed on a parcel in excess of its owner's prim allocation carry the automatic penalty of returning earlier-ressed objects to compensate...

...really, the value of land in SL is not a geographic footprint - it's a share of sim resources, the physical footprint and surrounding environment simply moderating factors to that core value...as tostesterone is discovering, more experienced residents soon come to realise that 'it's all about the prims'... :D

I'm wondering if Tostesterone purposely spelled Testosterone wrong....

Extra Prim Issues
02-14-2006 13:43
My land has additional prims as well, but this is because I own other plots in the same sim. Only items I have on these plots are a couple trees and a bench, a little park so to speak, the remaining prims go into my main build. So you can't simply look at a plot of land and see it has 900 prims at 1024 and think the owner is buying them elsewhere. Chances are they have more land in that sim.

Proffering a deal

To the OP:

If you find otu how I can combine the objects to a single house, I have a nice basic house you can repaint that I'll give you. It's only 14 prims total and has a good bit of room in it, and is easy to expand. I built it this morning to solve exactly the issue of the prim limit, as my prior one was a prefab with some refitting that totalled 104 of my 117 allowed prims.
