Translucent skins?

I have an avatar in mind I'd love to be able to make, but due to the way there's a 'default' skin on avatars, it's currently impossible. My suggestion is that the avatar use this 'blank' skin ONLY when no other skin is loaded, creating an effect like seen on 'invisible prims' cloaking the avatar when using a skin with transparencies.

Yes, this could potentially be used to have 'Invisible Men' running around, but this also stifles creativity in certain ways.

As this planned avatar of mine needs to be translucent and rather blocky, so blessing individual prims with this texture is, unfortunately, pointless, as the 'base' avatar underneath will still be visible.

Feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

There are invsibility fields available..trisck is to 'wrap' them around the base avatar before putting the 'skin' you want -outside- it

I agree that things like this should be available. Personally I would say that LL should allow skins to have alpha channels allowing them to have sections invisible. Making a full alpha texture will allow for fully invisible people and that may be whats trying to be avoided... However, ya can already do similar things with invis-prims. So allowing it to be done directly would allow for much better AV's to be designed. For instance, I'm sure the furry world would love to have multi-joint legs without having it glitch out other people's AV's. Same goes for alot of the shoes I've seen that use invis-prims and glorch when around other textures without alpha.

So in the end... I support allowing invisible skins, however, I think they should be alpha textures rather then the invis-prim texture.

I would kill for the ability to make our skins translucent. I just bought Shard by Eddie Escher and my first thought was how amazing it would look if the avatar were partially transparent.

Ah. One day. :)

A great idea! It would also 'fix' the need to use invisiprims to hide parts of the avatar.

I don't even wanna try & count the number of times this has been brought up in the past. :o Don't give up hope, though -- if we're tactful yet persistent, they just might be persuaded.

Keep pestering those Lindens! :)

Yeah, there has been a great ddisturbance in the force as millions of voices cried out, "damn it, we want better avatars with invisible body parts." In the 18 months I have been on Sl, I think that is requested about once a week or so.

I'd love to see some invisible or translucent skins added, merely because i'd love to try something new but, well the body gets in the way! And while the invisiprim works for some things it does ruin the effect when you stand infront of someone and suddenly see through them :)

I really don't see what the problem is, you just put the same rendering code for prim textures into the player avatars and you're done. It also solves the issue of prims being coloured slightly different from worn skins in different lighting dispite having the exact same colour in both skin texture and prim texture. And it's safer for privacy issues than the invisi-prim, because transparent textures show up with "Highlight Transparent Prims" where as invisiprims do not.
