[updated jan, 2010]
...instead of seeing a mess surrounded by
CODE
 tags, users can download an add-on module that will parse normal forum BBCode for them

=== Internet Explorer ===
IE users should install IE7Pro from http://www.ie7pro.com/
and the script found at http://www.iescripts.org/view-scripts-554p1.htm ("Second Life Forum BBCode Parser" courtesy of ProtectorOne)

=== Firefox, Flock, Opera (pt1) ===
Firefox, Flock and Opera users should install GreaseMonkey from http://www.greasespot.net/ , just click 'Download Greasemonkey', then on the next page 'install now'.

=== Chrome (pt1) ===
google Chrome users can Install Greasemetal from
http://greasemetal.31tools.com/

=== Firefox, Flock, Opera, Chrome (pt2) ===
Firefox, Flock, Opera, and Chrome user should then go to http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/9651 and click 'Install this script' on the BBCode Emulation component (Coutesy of our own Strife Onizuka AKA Blind Wanderer, updated may, 2008)

Chrome users, right click the install button and "save link as", and install to the proper Greasemetal directory

Opera users, right click "save as" and create a folder (wherever you like), and save the file with a .js extension. then in Opera, go to Tools-->Preferences-->Advanced-->Content-->Javascript options, and select the folder you just created.
type "opera:config" (no quotes) into the opera address bar, then "user javascript on https" into the search box, and check the box that comes up, click save.

=== Safari ===
safari users can try the instructions detailed here:

That's it. You will then see the forum in a whole new way... with tags and formatting ENABLED!

PS.
thanks to Strife Onizuka, ProtecterOne, SuezanneC Baskerville, and Viktoria Dovgal for their contributions of code and instructions.

If it means firefox - I'd rather see the forum without the tags and formatting ;)

I wasn't able to make this work in Opera (9.25). I did however find the exact instructions where exactly to put .js file on this URLs:
http://userjs.org/help/installation
http://suezannecbaskerville.wordpress.com/2007/07/14/using-strifes-bbcode-greasemonkey-script-in-opera/

...I've tried it with some other .js files for Opera which worked for me, but this particular didn't.

Be sure in Firefox after you have installed greasemonkey to click the monkey head in the lower right of the browser to turn it on, THEN go to the installation page for the BBCode Emulation and install it. It works fine btw. :) Tnx for this! :)

If you still cant install but only download the script you probably use the Firefox Add-on NoScript. The fastest way to install the greasemonkeyscript is to allow all scripts for the one single moment of installation (right click on the NoScript-icon in the status bar).

Make sure that after the successful installation of the BBCode Emulation you forbid scripts in NoScript again.

Btw, allowing only scripts by userscripts.org did not work. The installation seems to be run by a third party....

It really works fine! 8-)
