I am new at all this. If you buy land, what can u do with it? Do you make L$ for visitors you get or is it just a luxery?

Hello sarita! I can give you a couple of basics but you will want to read secondlife.com/land, speak to an in world Liaison or Mentors as well.
When you join Second Life, you are allocated a plot allotment of 512m^2 of land. This means you can purchase up to and including this amount - we make First Land available to newcomers for L$1/m^2, do a search for it from the Find button - but anything more than that requires you to tier up.
To learn more about the tier system, click on the Community button here on the webpage, then find the "Your Account" button at the top right, and from there you can find "Land Use Fees" in the table entitled "Your Account."
