Auto-return script?

I read all these posts on items that have been left for dead in other peoples' and Linden land and I'm wondering if a script can be written where if your item is not on your land (or in an area like a sandbox) when you log off, it is auto returned to your inventory for you?
I'm not asking for the script itself, as that belongs in the scripts forum, but just if it is possible. Something like this would greatly help the litter problem I think.

Hello Jolan. It might be possible, but I honestly do not know. I have seen scripted objects that can IM their owner when they get lost, so maybe something like this could work. Try asking in the scripting forums about this if you are interested in following up or would like to have it for yourself.

If it is possible, you would still have to remember to add the script to everything you own that might stray. I think the best plan of action, for now, is for land owners to manage their own parcels. Auto return is a good tool for land owners, but is often not utilized. If you find Linden land that needs auto return enabled, please let me know.
