Adding trees to protected land.

I have two properties separated by a long, narrow stretch of protected land. It's on a hillside and quite narrow. I wanted to add some trees to make it look less barren. Is that possible? I don't want to build or connect the two properties, just want that ugly strip-mined look to be improved.
