I dont believe it !
A new version 30mins ago. I can't load it because it insists on trying to re-download itself. Exactly what happened last time until they did an extra update several hours later, after withdrawing just the Mac version for a little while.
Please, LL, remember how you solved it last time. Lets not have the same problems repeated each time.
Can't break the "download-me-again" cycle. Can't get in. Can't get on with my product debugging.
I presume the PC people are OK, as last time?

From: Chalky White I presume the PC people are OK, as last time? Nope. Looks like there's a boo-boo.

Preview is currently down. We are in the process of deploying a new build and creating the viewers for it. Sorry for the inconvenience.

How I solved it
03-08-2005 10:55
Last that that happend a few days ago... it was because when the new preview was ready... the PC client was downloadable... but the mac version was not. If you get into the "download" cycle. Go to the actual http://www.secondlife.com/preview/preview page and you'll see the mac download disabled. The mac download is usually ready a few hours or days or .. (whenever) after the PC. one.

Thank you Kelly - you've no idea how valuable such a post is to reassure us.
But Blueman.....
Thats exactly where I did get it from, and it was available the same time as the PC one. I always get them direct now.
What I got was build 5, although the readme talked about build 6 dated 1st March.
I do wish these previews included the build number in the name, so when we are fighting with multiple copies which do/don't work, we knew what was which without having to investigate and then rename either the app or its folder for ourselves.
It really does look as though this lethal download loop is becoming a regular feature of new Mac versions, but apparently not for Windows ppl.
Is it the bug it seems, Kelly, or is it something you can just switch on when you need to keep Mac ppl out, but let PC ppl in? If we knew it was an indirect message, rather than a bug, we would get less concerned and wait more patiently.
Bug ? Or deliberate feature ?
Sure LOOKS like a bug, but nobody ever confirms or denies it.

Sure LOOKS like a bug, but nobody ever confirms or denies it. ... it was happening to both PC and MAC people...

It's usually human error. There are multiple checks to match versions and if any fail it asks you to download a new one. None of these checks are specifically 'does this version match the web version'. What this means is that if an update is done to the system before the new installers are put on the web then you can get stuck in the dreaded download loop of doom (DDLOD).
