Ok everyone has seen the new way the music controls behave in 1.7 and on the surface it seems good, until you start playing around with jukeboxes etc, everytime you change station it defaults to stop and you have to hit play again and that goes for everyone on your land.
So i have a couple of ideas to give the functionality intended but leave the same freedom as before
Part 1
When a user is on the ground ie agent not flying then the music control behaves like 1.6
Whan a user is flying then the music control behaves like it does in 1.7
So that will give the basic function as we want it allowing us to change urls by jukeboxes while we are standing on the ground etc, and allow us to fly around without the music keep being activated, the only problem now being in a vehicle where you dont go into fly so
Part 2
When you press stop the control should remember that as you preference across parcels the same goes for play
This will allow you to get into a vehicle and press stop, and flyaround without the music keep getting started, this goes for cars and walking too, sometimes you dont want music on but dont want to disable it, the play should mean if a stream gets cut off it should retry the stream instead of you having to press stop then play again.
Thoughts?

Thoughts? I wouldn't agree with the first part without the second part, but all in all it seems like an A+ suggestion! Seconded!

No to part 1, yes to part 2.
As someone who has walked all over the world and still finds walking a somewhat fun way of travel in SL I would be extremely annoyed with that. Also it's bad continuety of features.
As for the Part 2, yes I think that's a good idea.

I just had an idea, kinda off-topic from yours, but still in the Music Control...
How about in About Land - Media, have a check box "Display Stream Title", if checked SL will grab the streams title and display it above/below the Play/stop button controls, and if needed scroll it like Winamp. Basicly doing what Winamp does with displaying a streams name/what-its-playing etc. Why a check box and not have it auto do it? I dunno, some people may not want to have the title displayed for some reason.
Not sure if that's possible or not, but just thought it might be useful especialy when trying to figure out the name of a song playing or what you're listening too or watching if it's a movie (could be done for video streaming too).
SL's audio/video streaming feels so... limited and lacking to me, so I'd think anything would help fancy it up a bit.

Ack - I hadn't thought about the 'change stream' issue. The stream I normally use craps out quite a bit, especially with a lot of avatars present. I can just imagine screaming to the crowd "Everyone - please press play!!!".
As someone who caters to new residents that might be confused by this behavior - please make some sort of persistant setting regarding this change. If you want it on, great - hit it & it stays on. If you want it off - hit it and it stays off.
Having the stream switch off on its own could end up being just as annoying as it is switching on - just in a different way.
Persistance is good!

Kelly - have you seen this thread? Having the music control button default to OFF may create a new set of unintended problems.
Is button setting persistance possible? I'd think that would solve issues for everyone. If you want the button off, it stays off. If you want it on, it stays on. Regardless of parcel changes.
What if I have land that is split between two sims - but still using the same stream on both? Or just land broken up into several parcels to offer different Video content, but not different Audio content? As people roam around the land, it will be rather frustrating having to hit play each time you cross a parcel boundary.

Its kinda possible to test this round the welcome area and it seems to keep playing across sim boundaries, yes there is music playing in the preview welcome area lolol.
So its ok if you dont change the stream, only problem is if you do, also the bug is at the moment, that you cant change stream without making it blank first, but it defaults everybody to off if you use like a jukebox changed using say llparcelmusicurl, in my bug report for this i suggested llparcelmusicplay and stop if they didnt want to change the system. i dont want people at say a party to keep having to hit play everytime we look for a better startion.

Well looks like this has happened, although this build is rather buggy on other fronts, Part 2 of my idea seems to have been implemented, If you press play it remembers it when you walk fly from one parcel across a blank parcel to another it will start playing again, but if you have selected stop, it wont play the music as you enter the new parcel.
I really like this way

I really like this way I like this way as well. I've always enjoyed flying over the landscape and listening to the changing music streams. Occasionally if something catches my ear, I'll stop and explore. If I didn't want to hear it, I simply turned the volume control all the way down. Seems to me, the way it's currently implemented in 1.7 is probably the best solution for most people.

I am always excited to see something like this get implemented... sounds like it's a music control with a MEMORY now. It remembers what you wanted!
