"A new version of Second LIfe is available."

Sigh. Every time I try to connect to the preview grid using the 1.6 client, it just keeps coming back with the upgrade dialog that says "A new version of Second Life is available. Yous must download this update to use the system. Download to your Applications folder?"

If I choose "Download" it downloads 'something' and restarts the process all over again. (I think it's trying to download 1.5.14). I'm using Mac OS X 10.3.8 on a Dual G5.

Any help? I'd love to see the new features!!

Errr... no gerat expert on that here .. BUT - I think I got the same effect if I ran the OLD 1.5-something preview button + upgrade + install + run .. and it goes back to UPGRADE!

The trick it to use the URL to the new .exe file (that was posted elsewhere) in a browser, download that .exe and run it. Then you get the 1.6 installed ok...

The problem is in the Mac version, not PC.

No, it's the same for Windows. You need to manually download and install the new preview. Or at least, I did anyway.

It could have something to do with the fact that the client's filename has changed from newview.exe to secondlife.exe; if the updater DLs and installs secondlife.exe (1.6), then tries running newview.exe (1.5.x), well... you're stuck in a loop.

I think they're working on the Mac client.

As I speak it is no longer avalable for download from http://secondlife.com/downloads/preview.php

The link is inactive, with the added words "coming soon".

The PC link is still there.

Maybe they put up a newer build than the one I used earlier today, and it failed.

Can a PC person who has only just downloaded it tell us the build number for PC?
