The sun has apparently become rather egotistic and is quite full of itself.

It's too big, this sun needs to go on a drastic weight loss plan.

On the other hand, it could spark a new industry selling avatar sun screen.

Also, solar energy will now be economically efficient what with the sun being ten times bigger than it used to be.

I believe there are some control variables in the debug settings but I forget what they are at the moment. Probably something like MakeSunInsanelyBigSoBigItWouldEngulfMercuryAndMaybeEvenShootOutFlaresPastTheOortCloud .

Roll back to the old sun!!!

I didn't really think the last comment was cool, I just grabbed the first pair of sunglasses I saw.

The sun 'glow overlay' it's also apparently visible at night below the horizon line in the water, even if the sun itself isn't... can look pretty weird at very early morning hours ;s

Agreed- the new sun is CRAP!
It's too big, too garish, dare I say too damn SHINY!!!

Please in future keep the all too aptly named Sunshine Linden well away from developers - still, I guess we were lucky to escape a pink and mint green sun...

There's a poll in the Resident Answers forum about the sun, please go there and vote No I Hate It.

I messed about with the debug settings (Client menu), click that and it opens a window, click the selection box and scroll waydown to SunGlow, once selected, click True and it resembles a hot day in the desert, click default and it goes back to normal. BTW, with this setting, everything that is set as 'Full Bright' becomes like a minature sun.... mess with these settings at your own peril.

There is no SunGlow in the Debug Setting popup list on my system.

The list goes from StatusBarPad to SystemChatColor.

What is the entry you have in settings.xml for sunglow? Something like <SunGlow FALSE>?

I'd have to check this out when back ingame tonight (UK time), and get the exact entry... I messed with quite a few, so it maybe possible I gave the wrong label. I do know it had the word Glow in the label title, and it was about 2/3rds the way down the list.... I'll report back later, unless someone else has already found it.

OK - rephrase required

The DEFAULT sun settings are crap - and it's not THAT easy to fix them now either.

There are PLENTY of things in SL want fixing - so why 'fix' the sun that wasn't actually broken?

Oh, wait! I get it. Some Linden dev thought it was 'cool'...

The sun looks way too big and wrong with RenderGlow turned off. Is this my imagination ?

It's certainly far too big to be a realistic looking sun, I just went out and looked at the real sun to make sure of that.

Is there a piece of viewer art that could be substituted?

yup!! wear suntan lotion!!;) (this was just to prime to pimp my wears;)

gridal warming? an sl blackhole slipped thru the system and knocked the sun off orbit and -it's comin right towards us!?!?- we must hear from the sl astronomical society!!

btw i think it's kewl that they skewed the potential daily ecliptic as far up north as down south - obviously to welcome our newb incoming friends south of the e.q. :)

The real sun only subtends an angle of .5 degrees. It's pretty small in the sky.

One can turn the SL sky off and have blackness, although the sun still shows up.

One can also use Force Sun To Noon to put the sun directly overhead and thus be in a position where you don't have to look at the blasted thing very much.

And of course there's always File Quit, which with the sky looking like crap and the text illegible and the many other problems that resulted from the latest update is looking better and better all the time.

Well I found the Render Glow settings and tinkered for a while. I've managed to produce something a little less dazzling and dare I say, more realistic?
However it's still WAY to big.

Linden both giveth and taketh away - we get a promise of more realism with Sculpted Prims - and a stupid bloated garish unrealistic sun - all in one week!

Oh, and the adjustments that make the sun marginally more acceptable have stopped ALL my light emitting objects working. Way to go LL!

You left out the illegible text. And the frequent crashing. The horizon used to look nice with the fog ratio turned up to 4, that's been screwed up for years now.

Anyone noticed the Pulsating of the red column LM when you TP anywhere? Next time you TP, extend your view to around 200 metres, as you look at the Red LM pointer for your destination, looks sci-fi, if not a little daunting.

I wish the competition would arrive.

Deformed sky, illegible text, pfffft. :(

I hadn't notice that the teleport beacon tilts when you look around.

Normally I would either fly toward it so it would be centered, or make it go away.

The cheesy beacon is making a red glow all the way across the screen that goes down and vanishes. Is that how the stupid thing is supposed to work or is now a broken stupid thing?

I suppose things could have been worse, they could have left the sun ok and made our feet 10 times bigger than feet are supposed to be.

Is there is a Jira issue on "return sun to normal size"?

Would it be possible to have the person that screwed up the sun launched into it?
